Manson Park is one of the Older Parks in Pittsfield. Its Proper name is Mary Ann Lancey Manson Park. It was created post WWII out of land & funds willed to the Town of Pittsfield by John Manson, a lawyer & leading citizen of his time. The Park is named for his late mother, a member of the Lancey Family that had a large Hotel near the RR tracks in Pittsfield till it burned for the final time in the mid-1960's & was torn down. There were some strings to Mr. Manson's gift of land for the Park: 1. The Park had to be beautified.2. To be used somewhat as a sport field, not primarily so.,3.Maine Central Institute( Our local High School & Prep School) has the right of 1st refusal on use of the Baseball Diamond & Softball Diamonds & other parts of the park during the school yr. The Lower end of the Park near the Graveyard is a special Events area & home to the Central Maine Egg Festival over 2 nights & 1 day in July each Yr. The Park is open from Local Dawn to local dusk each yr. thru late Oct. During the winter its part of the local ITS Snowmobile Trail System. A Primary school & the local Town Pool are nearby the park. There is at this time, no admission to use the park, except that during the Egg Festival there is a parking fee that is shared 60-40 with the group doing the...

I saw the name of this park and got excited. I love seeing those guys with the funny little red hats with tassels driving those little cars. They always look like they're having so much fun. I was hoping to drive one of those little cars or at least get my pic in one of those funny hats. I couldn't find any of those dudes around anywhere. What's going on? They have a whole park named for them but not a little hat or car to be found. Kinda disappointed. Maybe they are all out on paradise island...
