Love the trails, bathrooms are great, the shelter house is perfect for get-togethers and the playground has several features for kids.
I prefer the trail that is paved especially for strollers. There are other trails that are grass/prairie. A dog trail and a horse trail.
The bathrooms are actual flushing bathrooms that include sinks with hot and cold water and air hand dryers. Also has a water fountain.
We have used the shelter house for a birthday party recently. There are quite a few picnic tables that are in great condition and a few Adirondack chairs. We used the electric outlets for crock pots. Other items that we didn't use, there is a good sized charcoal/wood grill there. Also an area for a fire but you need to bring your own wood. Keep in mind there are no trash cans and it's first come first serve, no way to reserve the area.
The playground is great for kids. It has 3 fake boulders for the kids to climb and cables in between. There are a few different styles of swings so you can swing with your baby or toddler. The slide is a roller slide that doesn't get hot in the sun. The whole area has a floor of recycled rubber. But no shade until the trees grow more. There is a picnic table by the playground. And the bathrooms are...
Read moreBeautiful, clean, new park. Very nice lighted picnic shelter which was plenty big, even for our family reunion of 40. Restrooms are outstanding too - very clean and styled like a vintage flour mill. Bring your own garbage bags for your picnics - there are no garbage cans here to feed raccoons. Nice, easy paved trail. New swings for tots and small children and a good play/slide set as well for the same age group. The park deserves the 5 star rating I gave it but there are a couple areas where it could be improved: 1) Unless you are just wanting an afternoon to enjoy nature, there's not much for older children and adults to do. Adult size swings, horseshoe pits, volley ball areas, etc. would help make this a repeat destination for older families. 2) One large picnic shelter was great for our family reunion but additional shelters with just a couple tables/grills would be very useful to give multiple, individual families their own space for picnics. (I don't know about you, but I don't like to share even a large shelter with strangers). One other perk here - I don't have a dog myself, but there is a popular dog park as well. So overall I really like this park and the rest of the family commented on how...
Read moreWe already contacted the park 3 times about poison hemlock growing in their park. Nothing has been done about it. Poison hemlock is one of the most dangerous plants on earth. It’s a deadly plant! The flowers grow all over the place and are extremely close to the pathway. They haven’t even put up a sign yet to at least say CAUTION: don’t touch the plants (poisonous). I think that’s not okay because there are many people out there who do not know the plant and many children. And some dogs that are on a long leash who might try to eat the plant. It’s just simply not okay to not even put a sign up there.
Another thing we noticed is the dog park is closed so many times for absolutely no reason. It’s the perfect weather out and the dog park is closed. It makes no sense at all.
I would have loved to give 5 stars but these major things are just simply not okay. I still love walking my dogs there because it is a really beautiful park with lots of wildlife to see and amazing for birdwatchers but a trash can or more benches here and there would be great, too. There’s definitely room for...
