If I could give a zero star, I would have, not about the pears but about the owner's rudeness and disrespectful behavior.
I went there once, half for fun and half for the pears. When the owner saw I had some picked pears in the buckets and some in the cart, he asked me what was going to do with the ones in the cart. I responded I hadn't sort them yet. I might have a few to leave for the tasting stand. I told him I understand how hard it was to keep an orchard, and nothing should go waste. After a few exchanges, he said I either had to take them all or none of them. I was getting upset as he just kept on nagging even when I said I would take all that I had picked. All I wanted was for him to leave me alone and not ruin the trip. As there was no point of continuing, given he completed ruined the mood and making it appeared I had done something wrong, I started to leave. To top of the insult, he actually had a worker following me to the checkout. The worker was rude and started to call the owner when I asked him to stop following me.
I went to the orchard for fun and the pears, not to be mistreated and insulted.
I am sorry I could not agree with the response from the owner. It's apparent the owner just concluded that I was going to leave the "dozen" of "smaller" pears in the cart. He continued to pester me when I said I didn't want to get upset, and I was going to take everything (apparently, he couldn't hear anything once he made up his mind). The staff wasn't "leading" me to the checkout. He was following me at the owner's instruction and got every rude when I noticed him and told him to stop. Again, I don't mind buying all the pears, but I do mind being treated like a dishonest person for no reason. It is perfectly natural people have disagreement and/or misunderstanding, which should be resolve with mutual respect.
Update: It’s clear from your response that the owner made up his mind that I was going to leave all the pears in the cart when said I was sorting and might leave a few at tasting stand. Once he made the assumption, no explanation could be heard anymore. At the time I have one bucket with 15 pears. While I was talking to him, I was also trying to count 15 into the 2nd bucket. Why 15 pears in each bucket? it’s because he told me 15 pears were about 10lbs (btw, 15 pears are way over 10lbs). Funny enough, I only took home 29 pears, 1 short from my plan. So all the pestering for nothing. I am sure your believe your perspective, but your perspective is not necessarily the truth. Hence the importance of listening and not making assumptions. All I am asking is to have some respect and not making conclusions based on assumptions. Your behavior and your response clearly show that you are not willing to hear your customer, at the time and even now. Once you made up your mind, you treat your customers without any respect and trying to justify your disrespectful behavior. Why would you have a staff following me? It’s because you assumed I was going to do something wrong. I did not violate any of your policies. It’s your assumptions that I was going to violate your policies. I am not going to waste time here anymore. Clearly there...
Read moreWould not recommend. I came here with a group of friends from Manhattan for a fun pear-picking day, but the experience was very disorganized and disappointing. While the pears themselves were great, there were no clear signs or staff explaining important rules.
Upon arrival during the reserved timeslot (we had pre-ordered tickets), there was nobody at the gate. We waited around confused for over 15 minutes until somebody finally came to check our names off. The staff did not seem friendly, and the owner came across as strict and unwelcoming.
Checkout was also a frustrating process—we waited in line for at least 30 minutes in the sun, with only one register open, and couldn’t leave without paying for all the pears we had picked. Overall, the lack of communication and organization overshadowed the experience, and I wouldn’t recommend coming here.
You are required to pay for everything you pick, and a full bucket will cost over $100, which was a big surprise at checkout. It would have been much better if the farm had posted signs like “Please only pick what you plan to purchase” and gave a rough price estimate for a full bucket and maybe a couple scales around the farm so people won’t be surprised because you will be strong...
Read moreTook my family for the first time on this farm for Labor Day weekend, we wanted to introduce our kids the importance of nature and farming, we travel for almost 2 hours and hit the traffic and we got there a little later than expected, we got to go pick Asian pear for about more than 30 minutes, we did have fun and took so many pictures and videos, they have a sample to try the fruit as you are not allowed to eat the picked pear, the line for weighing and paying the pear took more of our time than picking them the pear is $4.50 per pound and we accumulated more than $70 but we got the entrance ticket discount omitted from the total we ended up paying over $50, it's all worth it everyone enjoyed the Asian pear it's super sweet, juicy and healthy snacks for the kids, I highly recommend to everybody to try this experience, this farm is not big but we truly enjoyed the experience and we are hoping to comeback in the next season. I also wanted to tell everyone to get your ticket online the space is limited...
