Tyler Ranch Staging Area — Attraction in Pleasanton

Lovely views from up high, especially past the initial set of switchbacks where it opens up to rolling pastureland dotted with bright white rocks. Surprisingly steep all the way, with little respite. Recent rains (this is Spring 2024) have damaged the trail in many places. Plenty of roaming cattle, so be respectful. Beautiful parking lot with toilets & water fountain. So bad day. My car tires was broken by traffic spike that set by this public parking space. The parking lots address was wrong, GPS lead continuing but the ahead was closed by a locked door. So when you on that time turn right to parking lots, the traffic spike did its job. I was told 7 cars were damaged just on today. I think the public parking has no reason to set that sharp spike. A police car was block on the way late to avoid...

This new park offers a great view of the Bay Area after about 6000 very steep and hard steps up along a wide trail. The way down is not much more pleasant physically as it strains knees and calves, but in the end, it offers the satisfaction of a solid workout. The top of Sunol Ridge Trail feels a bit otherworldly.
