If you enjoy history, definitely make a trip to Plymouth Notch, Vermont where the 30th President was born. We went in the afternoon on Labor Day Monday and it wasn't crowded at all. Give about an hour and a half - two hours to see everything and walk around. There is a 15 min. video at the visitor center that narrates his life and the different buildings. Otherwise there is a 40-45 min guided tour. The admission is about $10 per person and it allows you to enter all the buildings. If you go to the cheese shop there is a small museum upstairs that display the different devices used to process cheese. This can easily be missed because you walk in and see the shop, but might miss the stair case up to see what is up there. They also have cheese samples too. The only building that we didn't get to see was the church and all the woodwork inside. It happened to be closed. The drive to get to Plymouth Notch is scenic with a few small towns along the route. It is a nice day trip if you're looking for...

We enjoyed the three hours we spent here. Start your visit at the Visitor Center, which has exhibits on the life and times of President Coolidge and his wife Grace. It's interesting that while the President spent most of his political career in Massachusetts and DC, he held a life-long affinity to Vermont, where he was born and raised.

From the Visitor Center, there are a few buildings to visit, all Coolidge-related. There's the small house where he was born, which is attached to the General Store. Next to it is the church he attended growing up. Across the street is the house where his family moved when he was four and interestingly, where he was sworn in by his father to be President, after the untimely death of President Harding. If you like cheeses, there's a store built by his father in the late 1800s that sells locally produced cheese at reasonable prices.

The President's gravesite is outside the historic site but is only a short drive away along Lynds Hill Road. Check it out if...

I am a HUGE fan of Calvin Coolidge, the best President ever! I was excited to visit this site and enjoyed what I saw there. However, it would be nice if there were some actual Coolidge enthusiasts working there! Nobody understood my reference to the Keep Cool with Coolidge song or gave the slightest nob to a Coolidge water bottle my daughter was carrying. Nobody talked about his accomplishments or anything. Only the history of the site.

I am not rating this place anything below 5 stars because I don't want to hurt this site's ratings but if I worked there I would be much more enthusiastic about his accomplishments toward world peace, Native American rights, following the constitution and free markets.

I understand that state employees tend to be more liberal especially in Vermont but why not show some enthusiasm and embellish on Cool Cal's presidency? I know it's his birthplace and childhood home but that doesn't have to mean overlooking so much about the man...

So much history here!! Calvin Coolidge was our 30th President and he was born in Vermont!! His historic site is where he was born and grew up in Plymouth Notch, VT. His family turned over the house and most of Plymouth Notch to the state after buying up the land around his home. I didn't know he was actually the governor of Massachusetts, too. The house, barn and other buildings have been preserved as they were when he lived there. At 2:47am on August 3, 1923, Vice President Calvin Coolidge became the 30th president of the United States when he took the oath of office in the sitting room of his modest frame and clapboard farmhouse.  President Harding had died only a few hours earlier.  Coolidge’s father, a notary public, administered the oath by the light of a kerosene lamp; he refused to install such modern conveniences as electricity.  (from NPS website) Definitely a must see if in the area!!
