At this moment, this area is under construction. However, there are a few businesses that are open to the public with bacalaitos, alcapurrias, tacos, empanadillas and all those delicious things that are found almost anywhere in PR. There is also a small kiosk that cooks delicious Mofongo with seafood sold at moderate prices. There's beer, drinks, mojitos, piña colada and other varieties of drinks for every taste. There are also souvenir stands with everything you can imagine to take home as keepsakes for your loved ones. There is a lot of security and the COVID protocol is everywhere. It's not as it was before...but we definitely need to support the businesses that are making a great effort to be there and not let La Guancha pass into history. La Guancha was a very buzzing, great and entertaining place to go before hurricane Maria hit. Excellent food and a lot of dancing, especially on Sundays, was the prime order of the day. It is up to people like us to continue visiting and purchasing food, souvenirs, and all that can be found there. We need to bring back to life that wonderful place where there was so much entertainment. There's a beach front, parks, play grounds and food trucks. Plenty of parking. Unfortunately many of the trucks were closed in July... Bring cash as many that were open do not have credit card machines.
Couldn't swim as there was alot of algae... :(
Try the Lemonade from the tent right at the entrance it was delicious and refreshing on a hot day!
El Pilon truck made Chicharron de Pescado omg this was Amazing!!! I didn't know how they could make Chicharron from fish but turns out it's like fish nuggets lol. The seasoning was already delicious but use the sauce they make and out of this world. Definitely MUST try!
And if you like Alcapurrias try the ones that are sold in these trucks so many flavors. Crab was good. (Sorry forgot names of the trucks and didn't take pictures, hands were full trying to eat fish lol). Unfortunately there are not many tables or chairs. We sat on a low wall that surrounds the park.
After you eat, walk over to the pier and feed the fishes/birds or watch others.
And then a nice stroll...
