I’ve enjoyed stopping at the top of Monarch Pass since before I lived in Colorado and that’s been more than thirty years. The Monarch Crest Tram is always a favorite. A ski-resort-like tramway whisks guests from the gift shop parking lot to the top of the Continental Divide. The views are great and on some days they are nothing short of spectacular. While there’s really nothing at the top but the views, they are worth the modest cost of the round trip ride. It’s not a place you’ll forget. Built before I was born, the old areal tramway had a major upgrade in 2015 and it became part of the Monarch Mountain Ski companies holdings in 2022. A complete remodel / expansion of the gift shop followed in 2023 and now the space offers food, groceries, a space for our local artists, and even a small visitors center focusing on the rich history tucked into this unique corner of a very big world. It’s worth the stop. Hours are seasonal and the tramway is subject to closure for adverse weather (and all too frequent power outages). Before I forget, you might want a fleece or something similar to wear to the top. It gets chilly up there, even during the dog days of summer you may find far, far below.

While I’m sure the experience as shared by other reviewers is nice, the hours posted on the website are incorrect. After reviewing the ride and ticket sale times, we drove specifically for this experience (>1.5 hours total) arriving at 4:01 pm to be told ticket sales closed at 4 (noting the website says 4:30) and the last ride had already left (noting the website says 5). Extremely disappointing for this information to be incorrect, particularly noting families with young children commonly travel further distances for this experience.

So much fun . We got there when they first opened. For a little bit we were the only ones there . The staff are so nice; super friendly. There is a massive cell tower set up at the top. In Colorado using t mobile we had zip zero NO cell service . Buttt at the top , we did . Incredible view. I’m so glad we went . The gift shop at the bottom was really nice; clean bathrooms and super amazing things for kids to do.

Really loved this is as an option for a family activity. We had a large group with kids ages 1-5. The trams are older and provided lot of charm. The small scale feel was really appreciated. And the views from the top were fantastic. It’s rare you do something like this and it’s beautiful in every direction. I would just warn you if you have kids that run, there are not barriers at the top, so just be vigilant of you bring a runner. Great experience, it was run by very nice people, and they had an easy parking with a...
