Offering some of the best views of Hueneme Beach, the water way entrance to the Port docks of Hueneme. This should be one of the first places to take your friends, family, co-workers or Boy Scout outing's.
Our Lighthouse looks especially great in the late afternoon, sunset or twilight. It's 3 story Art Deco-ish towering white walls stand out nicely against the rocky break-water, small sandy beach located just steps away. If your lucky, on most days and evenings you even get to listen to the Sea Lions yelling across the water at each other. Time your visit to get to observe one cargo ships coming into the port, we do get to see an assortment here. There are vessels from Germany and the United Kingdom bring in brand new cars as well as vessels coming in from Central America with loads Bananas, Pineapples and more.
Half the fun of going to see the Lighthouse is the walk there, again you can catch all the action going on at port as there is just high wire metal fence. That divides the small paved road from the actual port and Lighthouse. Consult the City's website for tour dates and times, as its closed off most of the time. The walk to the Lighthouse takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on your pace, beware the many, many "Gatos" cat's that have made there home among the boulders of the break-water that protects both the small road and the port from the huge waves from flooding. Even so on stormy or really windy days, you take some amazing photos of waves crashing over the break-water and spraying sea water all over the place.
One last note, be sure to check the Port's Facebook page for arrivals/departures of cargo ship traffic as this to is very entertaining to see. Port Hueneme has a very narrow sea entrance, it takes skill full pilots to bring these vessels to the docks. Which by the way they share with our Naval Station just across the water.
Hope you will enjoy a visit to the Port...

In addition to seeing the cool artifacts -- such as the original Fresnel lens hand-cut in Paris in the 1800s -- you can climb 50 steps and then up a spiral stairway (really more of a ladder) to take in the view from the top.
Down the beach by the pier is a great little fresh seafood restaurant, Surfside Seafood. My halibut tacos ($12) were great. They also serve Dole Pineapple whip (soft serve), wonderfully refreshing on a hot day ($4-5).
The tour is free but the parking is $4 for two hours, and you need cash. Then you walk a good half to three-quarters of a mile behind the dunes to reach the...
