My favorite beach in all Jefferson county . Unfortunately it's no longer easy to find parking on weekends and nice days as since the pandemic many have found this gem. I bumped it down to three stars cause ofthat fact. And some of the new transplant s have serious holier than thou egos. That can make a trip here kinda a bummer. Excellent agate hunting lots of nice sea glass. If you hike west after a couple miles you'll hit glass beach. You go east you get to fort worse. Cool bluffs. Important to know. If you go to class beach make sure you know the tide schedule. I do and still I once lost track of time and got caught by a fast rising tide and was pushed up to the bluffs and was boulder hopping to get back .the beach gets covered during high tides and you can get trapped. There's really no easy way out if you do .so pay attention..watch out for the homeowners in the first stretch. One in particular freaks out if he sees you touching a rock.. most likely a bay area transplant part of the decline of what this area used to be and that was a middle class blue collar town with alot of cool people. It's become a retirement village with mostly bay area invaders that have demolished alot of what made this area a special place. So if you have been here before and it was longer than ten years ago? Be ready for a shock .the Seattle freeze is very real here and very sad to see. But if you see one beach go here. It's a nice place yuppy baby...
Read moreWe grabbed the ONE handicap parking space in the dirt/gravel lot. Unfortunately this doesn't permit any designated space on the side of your vehicle, which can be a huge challenge for anyone needing extra space to get in/out (like those using assisted devices). Trails are hard-packed dirt and sand, no paved trails. Lots of dogs visiting & very dog friendly, but keep them on leashes. The view of the Sound here is hard to beat, so you always come and sit in your car (crowds permitting). We came in early April; it was windy and chilly, but we had lots of room to move about. The park is lacking facilities like (built-in) restrooms and fresh drinking water; there are several portable bathrooms but they're across a grassy field or you can drive over there. One is larger for wheelchair/rollator use. No kids' playground in sight. Basically, this park is a lot of grass, gravel, and just amazing views. We enjoyed the very short, unpaved hike to see the nearby inlet/pond...
Read moreWow! Looking for Sea glass? This is great! We went during a low tide of 6ft. The beach was a bit skinny at this height. The hike is easy for most of the way, but there are some patches with rocks bigger than your hand and will be rough to navigate.
We found plenty of glass, filling up half of a quart sized mason jar. We even found some uranium glass and one piece of Amberina glass!
The hike took us about four hours each way. We went slow as I have mobility issues. We were still all very please and finished the hike without much issue.
The parking area was nice, and we did see some police patrolling it so it seemed safe to park in. The park was not that busy, and we only saw 2 couples during our entire hike.
We had a close encounter with a family of river otters, who were hunting just on the shore. We also spotted seals popping their heads out of the water, and a large...
