Beautiful beach. There was a smoke stack at the location where we were, but the air didn't smell bad. The water was cold and refreshing, despite smelling like pond water. The great lakes have a smell of fish. I highly recommend water shoes. The sand is riddled with sticks and acorns and the waters edge has stones. Plus there is the hot sand to contend with.

Our first visit to Lake Michigan was very nice at The Dunes. It's a little walk on a paved road from the parking lot at the West Beach, National Park parking lot. The bath houses were closed for the season already, but we didn't need them, so no matter. Definitely worth the visit.

The loop trail around the swamp is beautiful.

The beach was really nice. Lake Michigan was kinda cold, but you get used to it. They allowed tents on the beach and of course coolers etc. They had a picnic area if you wanted to grill. One negative for me is , it was a long walk from the parking lot to the beach. They should offer shuttle rides especially for people with small children and...
