Runners, walkers, hikers and all kinds of bikers love this fire road in Forest Park. It gently climbs 500 feet in the first 5 miles, which is the half-way point of this out-and-back trail. There's also access to several hiking trails that climb up and down the steep ridge. You will find more shade than views in summer. Very popular weekends with pleasant weather, when parking can be an issue and the going is busy within a couple of miles of the trailhead. In winter, quite the opposite when gloomy dampness lends a Grimm-like foreboding to the surrounding forests.

Very popular trail with both hikers and trail runners, so expect to share the trail and the parking spaces. There's no parking lot, you just park on the side of the street, so keep that in mind. But definitely one of our favorites for a starting point for Forest Park trail running. You can either keep on Leif Erickson trail the whole way for an easy run (or hike), or you can go off on other trails for a little more challenge/hills.

I had never been on this hike! It was a rainy day very muddy! It is a wide (road?)/ trail so very easy to stay socially distant and everyone had their dogs leash(per park rules) so that was great as my dog is not a fan of random dogs approaching him. I do have respiratory issues on inclines but was able to accomplish this hike! We did 3 miles and was glad I had towels in the car! I totally recommend this one!

Great place for a stroll in the city. This is really an abandoned road so it's pretty wide accommodating walkers, runners, and bikers. We walked out and back for only about two miles but the road is much longer. The road is not maintained so there are muddy spots. If you go during a rainy season, bring appropriate shoes. Dogs are allowed on this road but must be on leash. We didn't notice any viewpoints on the section of the road we walked but plan to explore more on a bike during the dry season. We also noticed that parking near the trailhead is very limited and that there was a lot of broken glass so it may not be safe to park...

2 stars for the running experience but this would be fine for hiking. Absolutely horrid, rocky, bumpy trail for running. I can only speak for the first 5 miles leaving from the Thurman st exit...but it was a miserable run and left me in great pain from the rockiness. You'll find yourself zigzagging, doing anything to get a step on something soft. I was wearing extra cush bondis too. Save your skeleton and do not run here. Also there were gnats buzzing in my face the entire time. Running is hard enough without being humiliated by nature and the...
