Shawnee State Forest Headquarters — Attraction in Portsmouth

A spectacular forest in southern Ohio known by the locals as the 'little smokies' with the rolling hills and unbroken forests, it is a botanical treasure. This state forest has a nice lodge and while is quiet in the forest, is close to Portsmouth OH with good places to eat and historic sites to visit. The Shawnee is about one hour from the Wayne National Forest Ironton Ranger District in Ironton OH to the east with Lake Vesuvius.
