Apparently the people of Poway drink this water, so children can't "play or touch the water"... But the birds can swim in it and actively poop and eat in it. With this logic, the water is not safe to drink in Poway. Kids LOVE water and sand, it's natural, so it's pretty sad that they can't touch it. Don't come here if you're little ones will kick and scream if they can't touch or play in the water. You're going to get yelled at either by them or the rangers. So, it's pretty much a lose lose. Sorry. -Other than that though, beautiful grounds, facilities, great area to walk and explore, and even pretty good play grounds. If you don't have kid's this place is perfect, if you have kids, it's okay.

Poway lake is a small water body where you can do fishing ,go on pedal boating, watch and feed ducks. The park around is clean, kept green with lots of trees for shade, with many picnic tables, playground, volleyball courts. There are clean restrooms. There are many trails around the lake, though we didn't go for hiking. There is a parking fee of 10 dollars for non Poway residents.

Very hot, burned my dogs paws, heat stroke, $5000 in Vet bills, 3 weeks of healing, rocky, trail has much more elevation than expected. Took 2 hours to hike 3 miles. We expected a flat lake shore walk. No shade, 550ft elevation change, high climbs then steep downhills repeated frequently. My fault for being out of shape and not managing expectations, needed way more water than we brought for 4 people. Thought this would be a pleasant lunch stroll… sorely mistaken. Lake view was nice for 20 minutes, then pretty much just low trails looking in the backside of the damn, hot, boring, slippery rocks, only a couple benches in the sun on the trail. Lucky we wore hiking boots. Miserable for our family. Not...
