To all the skeptics this is for you, I can personally say that the love and care Sylvia provides to these wild animals she takes in is equivalent to the love we would give our own pets. I had found 2 young squirrels that had been knocked from their nest by what we assumed was a hawk due to the injuries on one of them . Sylvia accepted a call from us around 9:30 pm and even though she was out on a pick up of another wild animal she was able to help me and meet me at VEG in pine crest ,most places would close at 4-6 pm and tell you to bring the animal in the next day , she was available (11:00pm)! where she explained to me how they nurture the animals back to health/ reunite them with their parents if possible and how close the work with the Vets at VEG . I honestly felt as easy once I met her and she showed me how they work , how she tracks their growth and improvement through the rehabs instagram page and website . Please if you’re in need of a rehabilitation center give Sylvia a call and don’t think...
Read moreMy husband found an opossum in the back of our house, which looked severely injured, so I started googling whom to call when I stumbled upon Melina's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. I texted Silvia with a picture of the opossum. She was on her way home, which happened to be near mine, so she offered to pick it up.
It took teamwork to get the opossum out since he hid in a very tight spot. As I went to the other side of the house to block it from escaping, I noticed another one, but this one was unfortunately dead. It looks like the dogs that live behind me injured them badly. Silva was able to get the one that was wounded into the cage. Unfortunately, it did not survive, and she notified me later that evening.
Silvia, I can't thank you enough for everything you do for the community and your love for helping needy animals. It takes a fantastic angelic soul to do what you do! Thank...
Read moreMy husband found a juvenile opossum at our front yard, she got a front paw severy injured, she was very weak and had green flies around. I put her on a box so the flies couldn't attack her, and started calling several phone numbers. Very kindly the guys at Pelican rehab gave me Silvia's number at Melina's Wildlife Rehab, I left a message and she called back me very quickly. She gave me some instructions on how to take care of her first instance, and few hours after we get together to do the delivery.
Unfortunately her paw was very injured, not enough to live in the wild by her own after healing. So they have to put her to sleep the day after.
There used to be a state law that we could keep her in our home, but now that's not possible, what a shame.
Thanks to Silvia for all the support, she is an amazing advocate to keep wild animals safe 🙏🏻...
