It was a great day at wachusett mountain, the views were spectacular, the mountain itself was a great time. The unfortunate part was that they were going repairs at the watch tower, so it was a bit like being at a construction site, and the actual staff at the mountain were terrible. I had an issue with my tire going flat which was my fault, I shouldn't have driven the car there and I certainly found out why. The tire had a little air left in it, so we limped down the road to the workers garage of the mountain staff, I had my compressor in the trunk of the car, I asked them if we could use a plug in they're shop to fill my compressor so I could fill my tire, they said we don't allow that, I said but I have a tire that needs air, they said the insurance policy they have doesn't allow us to help people, I said but the plugs right there can I bring the compressor and all you have to do is plug it in, it only takes 3 minutes. They said no we can't do that, they had they're own compressor hose there, I asked if they would fill my tire from that instead of my compressor, they said no to that and walked away. One lady who was the boss there said we aren't allowed to help anyone, call a tow company, they could have let us use a plug without any harm but let us limp down the mountain to find some air, if you have any reason to believe you might have car troubles don't go there at all, they'll leave you there without any...
Read moreIt's a wonderful and ideal hill for trekking. There are multiple trail routes. We have started using old Indian trail route.
It's full of green and natural path without any man made stairs. Few places it's nice sloppy and some places it's steep. I'm pleasantly surprised when I saw many seniors who also walking on the trail. Many came with their pet's. Very nice!
I am able to see multiple skiing routes but not sure whether those are operational during winter.
There is a very well built road which you can use to go to peak using car.
In the peak very nice 360 degree view and a small pond with plenty of fishes where you can have your snacks.
There is also a washroom available in the peak. You have to carry water, food and first aid along with you. It may take around 1.30 - 2.00 hrs to reach the peak if you walk very relaxed and by taking lot of pics. To get down it may take around 45 minutes. 4 hrs total time is more than sufficient.
The place is colder than near by locations and windy too.
In the starting point you have very big car parking where you can park around 500+ cars also there are multiple extended car park which are free.
It's very scenic location starting from wachusette reservoir so don't forget your camera.
Certainly enjoyable and wonderful free to visit national reserve to...
Read moreThis seems like it could be a great place for most people, especially given its proximity to Boston, but I had a negative first experience here (1 star, I'm giving it 3 because I could see it being great under different circumstances). I signed my 4 year old up for the level 0 Polar Kids snowboard class. It was his first time and it did not go well. The instructors were nice, but young and didn't seem to know how to adjust things for someone his age who was brand new. They gave him a board that was too big for him and the lesson progressed too quickly and he was in tears after 20 mins. They wouldn't allow me to help him and he was removed from the class. When I spoke to the ski school to see if there were other options, they were unable to help. Besides that, the place is kind of sprawling, I had some trouble finding the right people to talk to and it was very busy & crowded. I ended up taking him to Nashoba the next weekend and that place was PERFECT for him. Basically, if you want to teach young kids, go to Nashoba, the instructors were more experienced and the place is smaller, easier to get to and he had so much fun. If you're looking for more of a mountain feel close to Boston, then Wachusett...
