It is SO sad to see the massive rate hikes and fees for all of the camping and park entry. It's very unfortunate and those fees need be towards park officials and the hiring of more than what's already being done. OUR parks are getting destroyed and no officials are anywhere close with the end result being that people are just doing what they want. The response times from things I've read as well as my few own personal experiences are hours if not days. With that much time being used for any form of response, it's to late to do anything and hard to prove. You want these parks cleaner and safer, then we need DNR or whomever, to do there part if we are doing ours. NO MORE EXCUSES!!!! Time to step it up!!!!. The camp hosts are not there to do YOUR job. This is a disgusting waste of money and greed. It is now set up to only allow those with the ability and the money to enjoy this. This is embarrassing to even say this happening in Utah. How could family in this state be something so important but there is no effort in keeping things safe, regulated, controlled, and fun for EVERYONE! I've seen more paramedics called recently than I ever have but still no rangers. Trash left behind is out of control. My 12 year old son felt so bad for the condition of the park that he stopped fishing and started picking up trash. How could a 12 year see this better than adults? I've seen more broken glass bottles and alcoholic containers left through out the WHOLE park as well as alcohol and Marijuana related behavior than ever before It's increasingly getting worse because there is NO regulation. NONE!!!
This is what it states regarding alcohol:
"Alcohol is not allowed in Utah Lake State Park. Utah state law prohibits consuming alcohol in public places, including parks, beaches, and sidewalks. It is also illegal to be intoxicated in a public place to the point of endangering yourself or others, or disturbing others. Violations of these laws are considered a class C misdemeanor and can result in steep fines."
FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY HAS TO HAVE more frequent regular patrols because of the amount of people there. It is DANGEROUS! Hire more officers, hire more people that can be there to drive around and patrol who can notify the officers. You could hire more seasonal workers to assist with this. There can be more structure as well even internal job promotions and opportunity for those people. I know there are cameras and they should monitored better. They could notify whomever on duty of things going on. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE TELLING YOU THIS!!! The media needs to know this and hear it more as well as others if that's what it takes to see these changes happen NOW!
One more thing, on your website it's shows these people are managing this area. They are not! Where are they? They would rather have a new playground built so that it could in turn be destroyed. With these funds I would also think by now they would also be repairing the south jetty but they are not. What's wrong with this picture????

Read moreDrove up to the gate and greeted by young girl in torn jeans, Bass Pro hat and sweatshirt, and Keds that had been drawn on with pink marker. Very unprofessional. Obviously no uniform standards. Road in campground is one way and extremely narrow with tight turns. There are hundreds of bollards along the side of the road protecting utilities, but they are white and blend in with all the white RV's. They should be yellow with black stripes and reflectors on them. Site 6 was difficult to get into because there is a pull through directly opposite and nearly hit the white bollards. Had to drive on grass to get into site. Place is expensive at $54 ($50 plus $4 junk fee for online reservation) for water/electric only. The highest for any state or federal campground we've been to in the past year across 7 western states. Visitor center is closed with no reopening date. Park is very unsafe, between Friday and Monday I only saw one law enforcement ranger for the 5 minutes he was chatting with the girl in the entry fee booth. Never saw him on patrol or do any work. Saw a security camera on a building that doesn't work any more because it was pointed up at the sky, useless. Monday the entry booth was never staffed by the time we left at 1pm. Whenever there is no one staffing the entry fee booth the locals pour in and don't pay. Lots of trash, both on the ground and the locals coming in. Beer cans, cigarette butts. Saw one piece of human garbage person hurl a fish 60 feet and it landed in the water with a thud, no way that fish lived. Beautiful views with the mountains on one side and the lake on the other. Very much an urban park, right up against the city. And this park is all about boaters, which means you want to avoid it during boating season. Bathrooms are mostly clean inside, the doors need cleaning and painting. Who ever installed the dividers must have been the low bidder because they cover the floor drain and are wobbly to the point that the could fall over. Showers are clean but hard to use, no hooks or anyplace to put stuff to keep it dry. They are shower closets, about 30sqft, no curtains. Maintenance is neglected here, like many parks. There is one sidewalk that is humped up 18 inches because of tree roots and no one does anything about it. Weeds coming up through the roads and concrete. Saw a guy I think worked there, no uniform, just jeans and a t-shirt, driving a cart with an industrial sprayer spraying weed killer everywhere. He wasn't wearing a mask so he'll die of cancer. But they did not post signs saying that they were spraying carcinogens to warn people so people, kids and pets don't come in contact with it. Obviously the park has no management and no one cares about it. Restrooms and showers don't get cleaned...
Read moreFirst and foremost, you must pay 4 dollars if you are walking or biking, 15 dollars for a car, and 30+ for a camper or trailer. I've fished a few spots here and the harbor is great for channels, but I like to head to the river. I went from the park entrance to a small dock on the river, and caught 20 fish. 3 bullhead cats, and around 17 white bass. The white bass love worms, and they love curly tail grubs or Marabou jigs. There are so many carp in that river spot, and they are constantly jumping around which gives you quite the view. Almost caught a 13 pounder, but he snapped me off right at shore. Those white bass will probably eat any lure that'll fit. They also love spinners and small spoons like 1/8th oz Kastmasters. The best times are mornings and white bass are kind of active all day. For channels and bullheads, before the sun's up is ideal. They love worms, cut bait, cut white bass, stink-baits. Any bottom bait works great. There are kayakers and paddleboarders occasionally in the river section which you got to watch for, but they eventually pass and it's fine. One kayaker actually got my snagged rig for me from the water, so yeah, pretty neat. There's parking and camping spots and boat docks. Whatever you are trying to do there, you probably can. Make sure if you catch suckers, to release them instantly, as they are protected, and keeping them is ILLEGAL. Carp must be killed when caught at the time of capture and no carp is to leave alive. It is ILLEGAL to transport any live carp from the area, or live fish at all for that matter. The catfish have spines in the dorsal, pectoral fins, and they have teeth too so be careful with those guys or they'll tear ya up. Don't recommend keeping anything from there because of the quality of the meat, but if you were to, go with the white bass. They are great to eat, and great for bait. There's plenty of insects, but it's more of a problem at the harbor than the river. Gnats fly around everywhere regardless of the location however and they are quite annoying. I didn't have any problems with mosquitos or anything though so that was nice. Definitely going to be...
