Gorgeous beaches - we first went all the way to the end and saw the rock and coral beaches. You can't really swim there as it's too rough. It is Beautiful to look at and hike around. We then went back to beach 8 and waded in the water and snorkeled. You can basically snorkel all the way out to the little cayo (island) from pier 8. It was very windy the day we went so the current was too strong to get all the way over. On a less windy day it would not be hard. Just a word of warning do not go any further in than the beaches of that little Cayo as there is still live ammunition left from the naval bases. So just stay on the shore.
La Chiva beach is very shallow for a long distance. So you can just relax inland for a long time it doesn't get deep for at least a football field length. It's very nice to hang out in. We went in mid may and it was warm water for us.
We saw lots of crabs, fish, and lizards running about. There are lots of little paths so if you want shade you can set up your chairs inside the openings in the paths...
Read moreWe visited on June 20th. Unfortunately the beach was unusable due to huge piles of seaweed covering the entire beach. It smelled bad and in the water. La Chiva is very long and we stopped at several spots and they were all covered in the seaweed. However, i can definitely say the view was stunning and the water that was farther out was a beautiful light teal. There was no one else there, but that may have been due to the seaweed situation. To get to the beach, you have to drive a long way down a narrow gravel road, not something I would feel too comfortable driving a rental golf cart in fyi because it will track up dust. I spotted a small bulding that may have been a bathroom, but other than that there is no otuer facilities or any type of restaurants nearby so plan ahead. Wish we could come back when the beach is cleaned up because I could tell it was stunning.
The pictures were from the clearest of the 4 spots we stopped at. Those are not rocks, those are piles of...
Read moreOk, let me just start by saying that I didn't use a filter on these pictures. This is real! I still can't believe I was there. It was so so breathtakingly perfect. This was by far my favorite place to go, ever. The water is insanely clear and perfect. It's calm and good for kids if they want to play/snorkel. There are several locations on this beach to stop at. It's a bit of a drive, especially by golf cart 😭 but it's worth it. We went on a Tuesday and there weren't many people there. First we went to 2 and it was just the beach, no one was there. There were some people in a yacht parked out nearby. Then we went to 9. 9 and 10 are were the good snorkeling are. There's some reefs with lots of fish to swim with. The water is super clear and you can see everything very well. There are also gazebos on 9 & 10. Due to covid it is 1 family per gazebo. If you are going to vieques this is the #1 place I...
