Probably our favorite beach on the island, though it is tough to pick a favorite. We visited twice, first on a Saturday and again on the following Thursday. On Saturday, we set up at site #5 and had the beach almost entirely to ourselves, except for a few small crabs that started in and out of their holes. On Thursday, we set up at site #10 and there were many more people around us sharing the beach, probably the most we saw all week. Enjoyed seeing a school of small, curious fish swim around our feet as we stood in the shallow water.

This beach was amazing! I was swimming along and eating a hotdog that I had stored in the sleeve of my water shirt (I don't normally do this but my friends were late to the beach and said that we had to skip lunch. You can't skip lunch!). Anyways, I started choking on the hot dog while I was underwater. A fish came up and bumped me out of the water and saved my life! Luckily my friends had a Carver Hotdog Vac so I didn't have one bad day.

Playa La Chiva is a great beach to visit when in Vieques. The beach offers a breathtaking view of the La Chiva Key (do not set foot here due to UXO) This beach has a fine white sand which on a windy day can be a nuisance if you’re not about exfoliating and can limit visibility if you plan on snorkeling. Note when parking your rental car here do not leave any belongings behind best to leave windows down and doors unlocked due to thieves.

Nice clear water and very private beach, it’s labeled by numbers so you park at a number and that’s kind of your part of the beach (you can share with someone else). The downside is the beach has seaweed and rocks and not very kid friendly. Entering the water there are rocks so it’s painful but once you’re in the water is nice. To reach the beach you have to enter the wildlife refuge and the road is unpaved so make sure to have a good rental Jeep, else...
