Law's Seafood — Attraction in Punta Gorda

This place gets and maybe does profitable business because it's one of the only places that is selling seafood in the area for reasonable prices. But...there is a third world country feel to the place like a market place in the Caribbean or somewhere in some parts of Africa back in the day. They could do more to reduce the smell, the flies and some of the rotting fish on display. They need to organize and rearrange the layout of the place. There are some market places with seafood counters that are much cleaner than this place. The communication between the workers is a little unsettling to watch. They're often bumping into each other. The system is not smooth. They hand writing orders the weight of the fish manually calculate your orders, so brush up on your maths just incase they get it wrong. There's a particular young guy there that seems to have switched out fish after it's already been weighed. They give you ice to preserve your fish while you commute which is a good thing but when my 16" fish is already weighed then tossed in a cooler and then a 14" replacement bagged for me it seems the ice is a part of the deception. But hey, it's Port Charlotte, there isn't much competition so you roll with the punches especially when you're a minority. Overall you get some seafood so it's all good. My family and I are visiting on vacation. We stopped by Laws for some fresh fish for dinner. I selected the grouper which looked fantastic. They informed me they were closing soon and refused to clean our whole grouper. Mind you this was about 40 minutes before their scheduled closing time of 3:00 on Sunday afternoon. The lovely woman behind the counter told me they still had to clean up the space before closing. On top of this I asked if I could borrow two disposable, one time use gloves since I was taking the fish home to clean myself. The task of cleaning the fish was no big deal as I am a professionally trained chef and enjoy tasks such as this. However it rubbed me the wrong way kinda like when there’s sand stuck in your bathing suit, when she told me they didn’t have any and refused my request which seemed reasonable. Being the vigilant customer I am I spied a box disposable gloves on the ice machine and asked again pointing at the gloves. Still I got a stern NO. I'm very disappointed 😞 with my Crabs I brought two dozens of Crabs yesterday and when I got home I wasn't happy I drive from Sarasota just to buy their Crabs. When I got home some of the Crabs were dead around 7 or so after I cooked them some don't have meat it was hollow and then law's said they were medium Crabs 😭😭 that was a lie 🤥 I at least try to buy Crabs from here 2-3 time's out of a month. Not only that The old lady that was there yesterday is very nasty 🤢 My daughter wanted some shrimp and I asked her what was she touching because her hands was wet and her arms which she didn't have on and gloves while picking up the shrimps and putting it in the bag 😡 she said she was picking up fish 😔 so she went and washed her hands after she tried to give us the shrimps🤦 my daughter said never mind we're going to the grocery store for our shrimps.. when I first started coming here 6 months ago it was nice now this place is just disgusting and unsanitary they're telling you this medium Crabs but when they are...
