Great moderate hike! Bring a rain jacket, poncho, or umbrella. It’s a rainforest and it does rain on and off, sometimes pretty hard. Bring hiking boots as it can get muddy and there will be puddles along the trail—they are small and easily navigable. This is a perfect hike to start in El Yunque. It’s a little steep at times, but it’s pretty short. After the initial hike, you’ll come to a road where you can keep climbing to get to the tower. The path is thin, and mostly paved, but there are stairs, so not totally accessible for those who are differently abled. You’ll hear plenty of coquí frogs and birds and snails. The flora is exceptional, lots of flowering begonias, peperomias, ferns galore, palms. You’ll come across some little shelters to protect against the rain or to have a rest and some have old fireplaces—super weird and cool! To get to the top of the tower you’ll need to climb some steep steps with a handrail that only starts half way up. After this trail, its easy to keep going toward El Yunque and Los Picachos. Overall a pretty easy hike! El Yunque is close from February 2022-December 2022 as...
Read moreEasier walk to the (second) best view of El Yunque from the top. Beautiful “orange-ish” color of the tower in combination with blue sky and vibrant green vegetation are making absolutely spectacular camera moments. The path is very well kept and has several rain shelters. Recommendations: wear comfortable walking shoes, bring your own water and please, pretty please do not leave any trash behind.
WARNING: make sure you park at clearly designated parking spots to avoid pretty steep parking tickets ($ 280 as of February 2021.)
Take some time to enjoy your hiking/walking, listen to the birds, keep your eyes open for seasonal blooming of unique El Yunque plants, bushes, trees and truly organic raspberries.
Consider to take another climbing walk to El Yunque pick about 45 min long walk (rocky path) or 30 min short but much...
Read moreIt's pretty nice hike through some of the rainforest, takes about 45 minutes to an hour round trip at a really good pace. Just be careful since it's always a little bit wet on the trail to watch your step, the stone path can get slippery. It rains briefly and then stops, so I didn't get drenched. And the tree cover provides safety. The sway of all the different fauna in the wind was beautiful. Surprisingly, I didn't experience any mosquito issues, and I saw a lot of butterflies. However, it's a very steady climb and it's not very steep in any particular place. Plenty of places to just stand and take a break. At the top, you will likely get into clouds so the view is fairly obstructed. However the tower is really neat...
