One of the largest natural areas by the American River in Sacramento county. A great place for hiking and bird watching! Usually there are a few people around, so it's a great for those of us who enjoy solitude and the sounds of nature. Update and warning: I frequently walk my little Pomeranian terrier off the leash on the back trails around the river. I was walking in a less traveled part of Rossmoor early one morning and I encountered one coyote. It's fairly common to encounter coyotes in that area. But it sat there and stared at us. That was uncommon. So I put my dog back on the leash. When it was joined by another coyote and they both sat and stared at us, I was afraid for the life of my little dog even if it was on the leash. So I picked up a large stick for defense, and we left the area. So if you have a little bite-sized dog, be careful walking it off the leash in remote areas.

omg, this is 1 of only 2 RIVER BEACHES I CAN RIDE TO THE WATER'S EDGE & RIDE BACK OUTA!! very peaceful beach; i always take a HUGE lunch break here (a power bar 🤣) that's the pics w/the California poppies. the pics w/out is a hidden beach i only recently found on the other side of Sunrise Ave. you'll probably see fishermen float by; must be quite the lunker hole 'cause i always see 'em there. there are 2 EZ PZ ways in; each from The Jebediah Smith Memorial Bike Trail. this last time there (mid March) the CALIFORNIA POPPIES were in BLOOM! Beautiful...took some pics for my friends & you'al. 😁💙

Me and my dog saw a huge coyote bigger than my dog, huge mountains of tailings for metal detecting or looking for gold and rocks, beaches on the river and boat docks $6 to park/I also saw a mother deer and two baby fawns right at my feet so be warned about having dogs and letting them run around you don't want to harm the natural environment there are a lot of animals and baby animals out here so stay on the trails mountain bikers and people

I have to say I'm very VERY impressed with the Rangers who work this beat. They are amazing. Just about a week ago I was there for my usual daily walk. I happened to use the restroom as i stopped at the trash can I noticed a sharps container attached to the port potty. It was old and the lid had broken and had fallen in on itself exposing a bunch of hypodermic needles. I immediately phoned the owners of the potty it was attached to. They informed me it was not their responsibility it was the parks and he couldn't give me their phone number I had to find it myself. " Against their rules. I guess🙄" so I dialed 311. Once transferred to the rangers I explained the situation. I was told a ranger would be dispatched at once. I thought to myself " yeah sure ok" not expecting this to be handled. But to my surprise a ranger came pulling into the parking lot rather hurriedly and was inspecting the box. Before I could fully leave a second officer pulled in. "Yes officer because ranger are federal police officers" I had the stop and pull back in just to tell them how appreciative I was of there speedy response. It was amazing. I would have to say it might have even been under 5 mins from the time I hung up the phone from reporting the incident....
