I grew up in this cove and watched, in one season, the rich, abundant tide pool and sea life be decimated by "the public" when it was opened to everyone. Last time I was there, despite "no fishing" signs posted, I saw men taking their sons out to learn how to fish off the tide pools and shore. It was a marine preserve for a while, after everyone cleaned every living thing out of the cove. When I was young we trapped lobster, along with commercial lobstermen, in the winter, gathered only the large abalone, of which the tide pools were plentiful, had luaus with seafood buried in pits with hot rocks in the sand. We harvested crabs in season, and Japanese people gathered sea urchins and caught fish off the rocks. Rays floated just over the sand offshore, fish teemed around the pillars of kelp. Kelp cutters came by from time to time and took away those great columns of sea vegetables, and off went the fish that hid and fed in them. Now the cove is almost sterile, barren, from rapacious human beings, who are completely unaware of the cycles of life on the shoreline, how long it takes to replenish the numbers of creatures that make their homes in the rocks and offshore. People have made movies and commercials in the cove. That's fine, as long as the seagulls that used to nest in the cliffs, and all the other creatures and birds in the fields, once filled with strawberries, tomatoes, flowers etc. that the Japanese farmers cultivated above the cliffs, are not destroyed. I say, just stay away. For a long time. Let the land and sea recover. Then come and look, and go away again. Stop demanding of the delicate ecosystem in this beautiful place more than...

We had a great time, we parked on the outside of the cove on the 3 car +1 handicap parking lot. The cove cost for parking inside, not sure how much I didn't check since it was about 10 mins till sunset. There's a dirt sidewalk that leads to the parking and cove trails from the free parking lot. Saw some bunny's, flowers, picnic tables more than 4, benches along the ridge, a walkpath down to the water a trail for horses and not for horses. Seems like a great place to spend the day enjoying the scenes and if your the walking around down a long trail and then up again to get back to the car then you'll enjoy it. Beautiful view of Catalina Island and if the sun is setting over the water then you see the clear view till the end. Beautiful colors light up the sky and remember, a few clouds in the sky will intensify the sky's colors of blue pink, purple and gold.
Great place to enjoy God's Creation. Nature displays the Handy Work of his Hands.

Read moreThis place is a jewel the moment I arrived I was hypnotized . The restrooms were clean they even had mirrors. The land was relaxing when I saw the ocean view I was in love with this place. I had to go down fast to get in the crystal clear water the trip down had amazing views. When at the beach front no trash was in sight the water was light blue and light green turquoise. Be careful when walking there's lots of variable size stones but there's a little trail that guide you down the beach line. When settled down with a sitting spot I got my self prepared to swim when entering the water is was not to cold it had warm currents as well. So I went out at head level I started to dive the sea life was beautifully I saw little fishes even a 7 to 8 size fish. But next time i come here i will be prepared mens swimsuit, dark fin gloves, free diving flippers and even a snorkeling kit. I got kind of cold in the water. Next time I'm going out far to explore the kelp Forest. One more thing i found natural sage. Here are a few pictures...
