The Upper Quarry, the first stop on the trail leading up to Memorial Park, is a beautiful and interesting place. The geologist in the family will find plenty of sandstone to examine and study, the hiker will love the trails, and the bird watcher will see lots of native species to photograph. The quarry has picnic tables which makes this stop great for an afternoon meal with the family or a date night.

Great spot. Views of the Mississippi River valley, picnic shelter, tables, and a hiking trail. Informative kiosks with info about the river and the history of the area. Parking for about 8 cars, outhouses on site, no running water in the park. Can be accessed by the road in the summer and by walking in the winter while the road is closed.

If you aren't feeling like a hike to Barn Bluff, this is a cool alternative on Sorins Bluff that you can reach by car to see the sunset over Red Wing.

We visit Red Wing regularly to see family but I didn't know about Memorial Park until recently. It is definitely a must visit! It was easy to book a reservation of the pavilion for our family gathering through email - the website reservation process was kind of confusing so I just contacted the email listed. It's a great spot for a picnic, hiking, enjoying the views. Interesting tidbits of history are posted throughout the Upper Quarry where we had our gathering. I am looking forward to going back in the future to enjoy the...
