This is pretty awesome. It's like a miniature Grand canyon. The first time I drove past and saw how deep 300 + ft it was I had to turn around and go back and visit. It's very large for a rest stop and the parking lot gets pretty full at night with truckers but I've never seen it so full a car couldn't park. It does have a basic bathroom that's well maintained but it's beginning to show signs of age.
Now the view. INCREDIBLE! It's hundreds of feet the bottom and it's almost straight down. There's a solid four foot wall along the edge and in two places you are actually hanging over the edge, not for the faint of heart. The only downside is the train tracks right at the end of it. I was parked there one evening and when the train came the rush of noise was sudden and very powerful, but I was not in the parking area and I was a close as you could get in your car. Please don't ignore the signs. This can be a dangerous place for pets.
Besides the view and bathroom there are a few picnic tables and a lot of space. Nothing else. Drinking fountain hasn't worked for over a year and I'm not sure about the phone. I still like stopping because it's calm and peaceful. It's also fun to see the...
Read moreI’ve been here a number of times before just never got around to reviewing the place.
This place is a scenic viewpoint and rest stop combo.
There’s plenty of parking including designated parking for semis and a restroom that out of all the times I’ve been here and used it is pretty clean as far as highway rest stops go. Oregon does seem to do a good job at keeping their rest stops clean.
The old US-97 alignment is accessible by foot from the parking lot including the old Crooked River bridge that was closed off to automobile use 20+ years ago when the much wider bridge opened to the east. The old bridge is now for pedestrian use only.
From the bridge you can see to the canyon bellow. Definitely keep a hold of your pets and children as it is a 300 foot drop to the bottom.
There’s also plenty of grassy and shaded areas.

Read moreThis is the place you want to stop at when passing through. There is plenty of space to walk around and see breathtaking views of the old bridges and steep rocky cliffs down to the Crooked River. The parking lot is large and provides relatively clean bathrooms.
Walk around and take in some nature. Hawks circle in the skies above, "rock chucks" poke up out of the rocks if they don't hear you coming, and ground squirrels run in and out of their burrows in the grassy picnic area.
Be careful as there is only a low guard rail near the immediate are of the parking lot where the path is paved. Further down the path the wall ends and the paved path turns to dirt trails. Only your common sense stands between you and the...
