The story of Holloway Reservoir can be retraced to the infamous Holloway Dam. Legend has it that somewhere near the previous river bed, before the dam was installed, a prehistoric fossil was discovered. In an effort to conceal the discovery, due to the abnormalities and sincere gruesome qualities of the discovery, the region chose to create a man made Reservoir to keep the findings from more scrutiny. This allegedly created the lake system which we all now enjoy in mid Michigan. The land of the lakes. Why did we need a dam in the middle of the worlds largest lake conglomerate? We may never know. Ten out of ten, get a jetski out there and some summer weather... good to go!

This is a great place to check out the wildlife, catch a sunrise over the water, take some neat pics, try some fishing, and to basically just relax and enjoy the scenery. I would recommend to anyone however in order to get the full views you will need to be healthy enough to climb a concrete flight of steps, just FYI. There is a small permanent-built outhouse on the grounds and it seems to be pretty clean but I am not quite sure if it is open all the time. I was able to get some great pics that morning and the fish were jumping out there too and they were huge! I really enjoy this place.

This is a great place to fish for walleye, pike, large mouth and smallmouth bass and just for general boating. There is plenty of public access sites around the whole reservoir including large parks which are great to walk you’re dog fish or just take a stroll with your family. There is many up-to date boat ramps available to launch large boats with ease. With its 2000 acre size there is all the space you need for tubing skiing etc.

We rented a big camper and had fun here for 5 days with the family. Very well-kept campground (although some of the bathrooms are iffy...thankfully we had our own setup in the RV) and super quiet with very respectful neighbors. The little beach (Buttercup Beach) is free to use for those camping. Great for rock-hunters! I brought home so many fossils and gems. I would suggest water shoes if you go in, though. My niece, nephews, and I found LOTS of big and little shards of broken glass when scooping the...
