Someone recommended this park to me and I’m not sure why… I’m also not sure why the reviews are mostly positive….
For starters, there was absolutely no shade while I was trying to walk around the lagoon. There are trees covering the picnic tables, so it seems like priority is given to people that are coming out to barbecue, but if you’re looking for a place to actually do a pleasant scenic walk you’re out of luck. It was only low 70s today and my dog and I were both overheating in the sun.
The lagoon itself is nothing very special to look at and there was trash everywhere in the water. The only redeeming thing about the water(and park as a whole) were some pretty, white water birds that were chilling on a log on the edge of the water.
I definitely noticed that there were some shady people at the park itself and also parked on the side of the road above the park. As a single woman, I felt myself a little uncomfortable, especially because this park is so geographically isolated.
As with many different parks I’ve been to lately, there is a huge Canadian geese problem. Their poo is everywhere! And they’re so used to humans that they don’t move out of the way when you’re passing, but simultaneously they’ll hiss at you. It’s a minor thing but it’s still annoying.
I was reading some of the other reviews, and a couple people said they had their cars broken into here, one lady said that she was only gone for 10 minutes before someone broke into her car.
Again, I am confused as to why this park was recommended to me by someone close. I can’t think of a single redeeming quality, with the exception of some pretty birds.
Avoid this place at all costs.
Edit: I found a tick on my dog after going here....
Read moreI make my own work schedule and I come here during the week.. I don't go here on the weekend it can be a bit crowded for parking.. There are asphalt walking areas making it ideal for the disabled to get around. Stay off the rocks around the shoreline...when there are a lot of people at the park climbing on the shoreline a helicopter flies by if someone is on the rocks telling them to ..Get Off.. Not sure what would happen if you didn't get off ..no one hasn't that I've seen.. There are hiking and walking trails that lead away from the shoreline..these trails don't seem to be too difficult to navigate.. Your dog is welcome if they are on a leash..there are signs everywhere to keep your dog leashed... Even if your dog's friendly another dog might not like them.. The park section just after the tunnel does not allow dogs at any time... Bathrooms are clean and plentiful BUTT (sic) take your own paper with you.. they often run out of paper Bring food and water if you'll be there for awhile Point Richmond has NO FAST FOOD ..AND ONLY ONE REASONABLY PRICED EXCELLENT HAMBURGER RESTAURANT JUST BEFORE THE TUNNEL ENTRANCE...AND THEY ARE FRESH MADE TO ORDER AND ONLY 6 OR SO DOLLARS for a 1/4lb Basic hamburger..I'm not a hamburger lover even so I usually stop there..the rest of town offering tend to be pricey ..example $9 for a fish taco..20$ hamburger and fries. There are two small markets one has a selection of hot dogs ... I prefer this park to any...
Read moreI was on my lunch break and decided to just chill at the Miller/Knox park right next to my work. The park is located next to the water and its a long stretch but where I was at was right close by the Point Richmond tunnel, really near to where the park begins and a little Richmond beach is off to the side kinda hidden. You wouldn't know there's a beach unless your from the area or happen to really pay attention to the people parking their cars and walking over some rough terrain. Wildlife can be seen and enjoyed during the day like birds. Ospreys and hawks sometimes battle along with the crows for control of the massive park and its air space. Just kidding, I was putting too much on...
