The Robins Center is one of my least favorite sports venues. I have been there multiple times for Spiders games and have had consistently poor experiences in several respects. First, the concessions are highly overpriced, the food and drink choices and quality are awful, and the concession staff is often inept. One of the worst hotdogs I have ever been served was served recently at the Robins Center. The dog itself was cold, and the bun was dry and hard as a rock. It should have never been served. I strongly suspect it had been left over from an earlier event. The wine quality is absolutely awful. And I have been given the wrong type of wine on two occasions. The staff is completely unfamiliar with the food it is serving. I have also watched them scrambling to prepare food long after the crowd was allowed in. Things that should have been done in advance. I regularly hear other spectators complain about the outrageous prices. I personally avoid patronizing the concessions anymore. I plan to eat before or after the game, not add it. Second, the event staff/ushers are very poorly trained. On more than one occasion, the usher assigned to a particular section was absolutely clueless as to where our seats were located. They were unfamiliar with the lettering and numbering of the front rows. They also did not know the seat numbering system. They were of no help whatsoever. At one game, I literally asked three different ushers for a seat location, and not one of them knew where it was. I now know the seating in the arena better than most of the ushers whom I previously asked for assistance. Third, the bathrooms are much too small and very poorly designed. As a result, there are long lines during intermissions. The men's room is incredibly small and has only one point of egress. As a result, as people are trying to enter the bathroom, people are trying to leave through the same point. Extremely poor and awkward foot traffic flow. I would really like to know who designed the bathrooms for such a large facility. Finally, there is virtually no one directing traffic to get Cars off of campus after games. After getting stuck in gridlock after games, I now make it a point to leave before the end of a game to avoid the gridlock. This is not my experience at other sports events or universities. I think the Robins Center management and U of R personnel would do well to go to other arenas, like JPJ, and see what a great and professional fan experience...
Read moreI have always been loving to compete for Newport News Special Olympics state games for bowling 🎳 I was very mad and upset with your arrangements for the Special Olympics state games for the Olympic Town, I had money that I really wanted to buy from the Souvenirs from the Olympic Town and I wanted more stuff to get from the robins center all you had was not much to get. The only thing I love to do is sign language to the national anthem and do the lighting of the torch for the Special Olympics, plus I really want to speak to everyone for the Special...
Read moreWe came for Spiders vs Lafayette. Spiders did really well with streaks of 3s!! Good game!
The experience was great. The stadium is well maintained. The seats were comfortable enough. The restrooms were many and clean. The snacks were great. The big screens made watching the game a lot more fun.
There are lots of parking places all over the stadium. Free public parking is possible. It took us a little more time to walk but it...
