We drove hours from our RV to visit this small farming town. You have to be a real Trekkie to make this journey. There's a small museum & gift shop, which both are unique & some items are very rare (for sale and not for sale) and others priced reasonably. The 2 ladies were very friendly and helpful. You can scope out the mural, statutes, stone memorial to the future birthplace of JTK, see the mini replica of the Enterprise, look above you at the individual street banners for each major Star Trek character on the roadways, and visit the post office that displays the 4 stamps enlarged from the 2016 50th anniversary release - all around town and it only takes a few minutes. However, the location of the stone mural (which looks similar to a grave marker) has been moved from the main street (we heard it was originally a wooden sign installed by the founder, then behind a hair salon?) to down a side street in the alley way between 2 buildings next to city hall. It is in such a strange location! The area is so small & narrow it's not like you can have a large group there to celebrate, eat, or take large group photos. Perhaps during the annual S.T. festival in June things are much different. We wouldn't miss this stop for the world but once was...
Read moreTo be clear: This is the actual "Future Birthplace of Captain Kirk" monument (not to be confused with the bronze statue of James T. Kirk a couple blocks east of this).
This monument is somewhat hidden and cannot be seen from the street. From the street, look for a small, yellow stand-alone house (currently labeled as New Image Salon). On the right, there's a little pathway to its backyard. Here you'll find the monument. There's a bench in front of it, and on the left side there's a large mural of the Enterprise.
This is a small site, accessible 24/7. If you are already here, I highly recommend you also visit the Star Trek-themed "Voyage Home Museum" east of...
Read moreUnless you are living in a Star Trek fantasy world or just want to impress your friends with how far out of the way you are willing to go to see something others probably will ignore, you will probably want to skip this. First there isn't much to the town. Other than this memorial which is wedged in between the city building and some other small store, there is only a museum / gift shop that was closed by 4:00 on the day we were there. There's a small statue of Captain Kirk as a child across the street from the gift shop. Overall you get the impression that the town doesn't really have much else to call attention to...
