La Chiva Loka — Restaurant in Riverside

I originally rated this business as a 3 star business in my original review, but now I'm bumping this place up 1 star because I was treated decently on my birthday the 16th of July, 2019. This business is a big, cozy and spacious building. It is a decent bar and the locals like its food. The prices are fair, but one of the bartenders is so soft spoken you can barely hear him. My birthday happened to fall on their Taco Tuesday this year, so I decided to give this place another try. On Taco Tuesday, they sell tacos for $0.99 a piece. I ordered 5 tacos, said it was my birthday, and asked if they did birthday drinks. The bartender said she did, but that they were birthday shots. I'd rather have a beer or a Bloody Mary for my birthday, but why complain about something that you're getting for free, so I took my birthday shot. The tacos came about 15 minutes later. They were okay, but had no hotsauce with them. I was like, "Umm, where's the hotsauce?" The bartender was like, "What kind would you like?" I said, "Whatever is your hottest". The hotsauce wasn't hot at all. Not even slightly hot. It was a good quality, but other than that, it was just a bland salsa. I realize that there's other things on the menu and tacos probably isn't their specialty, so I won't let this affect my rating of this place. This place also accepts all forms of payment (according to the owner), however they still don't have that darn ATM Machine, so giving them 5 stars would be a push and a half. So -1 for not having an ATM Machine (cause that's only keeping up with the times) and +1 star if you ever decide to get that ATM Machine in your place....

We had a family dinner for eight adults on a Tuesday evening in early June. They have inside dining, and no masks are required. I did see that some outside tables were also avaliable. We had no trouble pulling a couple tables together for our large group. The waitress was friendly, efficient, and checked on us often. There was a large selection of dishes on the menu: the majority of the meals were in a reasonable $9 - 11 range, and included rice, or rice and beans. There are regular nightly specials listed on a white board inside the front door, and I noticed that Tuesdays was $2.00 tacos, and Wednesdays was wings. Complimentary chips and salsa is served prior to the meal. Our various meals included enchiladas, burritos, taco salads, and sautéed shrimp with a side of broccoli. Extremely disappointed in the experience, or better yet the lack there of, this place was recommended to me by a friend of mine in riverside I was doing some work for. I decided to give it a shot for lunch figuring it would certainly beat a gas station cheeseburger, unfortunately the only thing I got was a 20 minute wait at the door. They have a sign as you come in telling to “wait to be seated” no problem, until I had waited for 20 minutes to be seated and was completely ignored by the staff, after waiting 20 minutes and a line of 8 other people behind me waiting just about as long I left and went elsewhere. If you don’t mind waiting for an eternity to get a table by all means go here for lunch, if you actually want to eat that day I’d suggest going somewhere that actually wants...
