Do not book, as they may cancel on you last minute and there goes your ride since most people book / plan stuff during their entire vacation and cannot be flexible. I booked a biplane ride about a week ago and paid in full for Thursday and received a call Wednesday saying this flight was cancelled due to a 100 mile maintenance requirement. They also could not reschedule me earlier that day because the plane was to be delivered earlier in the day. So i was not the only person who was unexpectedly canceled on.

Having been in the Air Force myself I understand required maintenance. However i also understand that the pilots and OBX Airplanes are required to maintain meticulous records of their flights allowing them to know exactly when maintenance will fall (give or take) and you can do maintenance early at a scheduled time and not book a flight to avoid this occurring . My point of this post is a 100 maintenance is a very frequent thing, if true and there is a good chance your flight may be unexpectedly cancelled, essentially ruining part of your vacation.

I have also heard that they overbook Sometimes or will go with better paying (more profit) flights and cancel your flights. Not saying this was the case but could have been. I’d steer clear and go with another tour company...

We’ve never flown on a biplane before and this sounded like an interesting way to get a short ride in. The ground staff was courteous and efficient and pilot was awesome. The plane looked like it was well maintained. You sit front seat on this flight, just a little windshield and fully exposed—awesome! The flight was smooth, flew over several interesting sites, such as shipwrecks, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey’s Ridge, and even the home Andy Griffith owned in retirement, and the pilot kept us informed on everything we were looking down at. We’ll probably do this again, but opt for a longer tour next trip. Bring a camera strap or tether of sorts. The plane did have an a GoPro mount and a RAM mount (3/4 or 1” ball (I didn’t measure) on the underside of the wings. They would probably let you mount a GoPro to it, but a selfie stick hanging out from behind the windshield is not advisable...

Dan is the man! I had a banner made for my wife for our anniversary and it was awesome. My wife was so thrilled. Dan communicated with me 2 hours prior. My wife was not feeling well that we wont be on the beach. I told Dan that we could see the banner from our deck which was directly across the street from a motel located on the beach. 3 minutes before Dan arrived he gave me a text. We stood on the deck waving to Dan as he flew the banner. Dan even flashed his lights letting us know that he sees us waving. Dan went out of his way to come as close to us as possible. It was great. We had people at the pool and people walking down the street wishing us a Happy Anniversary! Thank you so muck OBX Airplanes and especially Dan

Returning flyer here to leave 11/10 for our multiple flights with Scott! Shout out to Jenny for running such a tight eye for perfection and safety awareness. Scott was so attentive to all of my 6 kids over 3 flights, learning their names and interests. He was so knowledgeable about the planes, the flight patterns and the OBX in general. He catered their interests into things they should look into while in OBX, explained the sights we could see from the plane, and was knowledgeable about the sea wildlife we saw. He was attentive, safety conscious and the BEST PILOT! Jenny kept a watchful eye on her planes with passenger safety at the forefront. It's no wonder it's a gem of locally owned and operated. We can't wait to fly again.

We hired OBX Airplanes to provide cross-country flight training that combined pilot proficiency, airspace familiarization, and sightseeing. Jenny was a considerate and skilled instructor who enabled my wife and I to achieve the goals we set for that afternoon. She was especially considerate of my wife who is building up her airsickness tolerance. Being that it was the offseason we were able to book Jenny and the plane for several hours and fly most of the Outer Banks. I look forward to training with OBX Airplanes again on my next visit to the Outer Banks.
