Fallon Park — Attraction in Roanoke

I visited the pool to try and swim some laps. I'm glad I'm only out $3.

The parking lot for the pool was scattered with litter and it's very obvious the city is content with letting this poor little park crumble before they actually make an attempt to maintain it. (Or the rest of Southeast Roanoke, but thats another story.)

The patrons were a rough crowd. 18 minutes before the pool was even open there was already a crowd of people all but rattling the front gates waiting to get in. Many were smokers and at least three people smoked simultaneously where others were waiting. I don't understand why this is permitted on this property. The people who frequent this place will make you wish you had just said "to hell with it" and gone to your local YMCA.

The pool itself is 50 meters. The water was clean, and the pool was in decent condition although showing some age; the deck needs resurfacing. I stayed along the center line of the "lane" closest to the wall on the opposite side of the slides to avoid children and other swimmers. I left after 45 minutes when I realized this was almost impossible. The lifeguards were polite, and this isn't a criticism of them.

It would be nice if the pool management would section off that far lane for people who want to get some exercise. There are so few options to swim outdoors without paying out the nose, and I imagine the park would generate more revenue if lap swimmers were...

I mean I have my own opinion about this pool and so does other people they agree with me the pool it ain't the pool it's the people that comes to the pool and makes it nasty if I were y'all I would not use the bathrooms don't sit on them and you just have to watch it people don't always get out the pool to go pee or poop so that's my opinion about it and that pool stays too packed to even get a spot to even lay out or anyting you would have to go real early to get one of the chairs but it's just my opinion everybody else has their own opinion about it I'm just sharing mine I remember one year going there and on the intercom they made everybody get out the pool because there was poop all in the pool where somebody didn't get out the pool and they shut it down rest of the night all because of that they had to clean it so my opinion I wouldn't go swim there but I used to go to Vinton pool but that pool is now closed I would take my kids to a private pool before I would take them to...

me and my daughter have a good time when we come only live a few secs from there only thing is when they have adult swim they dont keep an eye on the pool kids or always sneakin back in and now that they have where everyone has to get out cause of not a lot of life guards they still dont watch some even get in before the whistle is blown also need to put velcro or somethin on the ladders where you can grip better and hands not slide i have a hard time now usin the reg ladder i mostly have to use the steps also need to make ramp non slick also also need to make kids stop playin on steps and ramp but kids do know better when they suppose to get out but sneak in anyway cause they get away with it and need to turn music up also not everyone has great hearin espcially when you play oldies i rather hear oldies than...
