First off, this park is beautiful. Lots of walking and biking trails. Playground, pavilions, all the good stuff.
However, there are some glaring concerns that could lead to dangerous outcomes if not careful. There were no labeled trail markers that I noticed, and the trails (at least the one I went on) are considerably long. There is a kiosk with a map, but otherwise there is no reliable way to locate yourself when you're actually out on the trail.
More important for me personally, is that the trails here are not what I'd consider handicap accessible, despite them purporting that idea. My family, including my sister who can't walk and needs a wheelchair, walked from the main parking lot down one of the trails. We walked maybe two miles and came across a fork in the road. One way led back to the parking lot, the other way led the opposite direction, and maybe looped back after multiple more miles (no idea, there were no maps on the trail to remind me). The way back to the parking lot must've had at least 100 stairs, so of course we couldn't go that way. So it was either drag my wheelchair-bound sister up an ungodly flight of stairs, or walk twice as long to maybe get back to where we came from.
Suffice to say, if you're visiting the trails for the first time, study the map at the kiosk and get a picture of you can, especially if you are or are with a...
Read moreWe decided to check this park out after googling "best parks in Oakland county" (we are from macomb and know most of the parks). Boy, they were not wrong! This place is HUGE. We counted at least 5 play structures. That, however, is not what this place is about. The TRAILS, you guys. Holy moly. We only did a 30 minute hike (with 10, 4, and 2 year old girls, that was impressive 😉), so we only got to utilize a fraction of the trails. They have specific bike and hiking trails. There is said to be a bridge over the Clinton River back in the forest. This is a highlight for my littles- river access. They love to play in rivers. We didn't make it that far, but will be back!
There is a fee to get in (not sure how much, we have an annual pass after going to Thelma Spencer and loving it). There are plenty of strategically placed restrooms, picnic tables, and grills. A summer family birthday party would be great here! And there are pavilions you can reserve. The amount of green space blew my mind! I'm not sporty, but yay for those who are! They have organized sports on the weekend (cricket maybe 🤔🤷♀️). Also, in the winter, we are def checking out their sledding hill. We didn't get a chance to peek at it, but there is a sign that says no snowboards/skis (how high is this...
Read moreI love Bloomer park and it is a frequent ride to destination for me. There are a number of challenging mountain biking and walking trails in this large park. The park is boarded on the north by the Clinton River Trail (one of the most beautiful sections) and can be used to access the Macomb Orchard trail to the east.
It is a Rochester Hills city park and requires a purchased pass to enter by car during the summer season. Passes can be purchased daily or annually. Residence get a discount on the cost, but anyone can buy. There is no fee to visit via bicycle or on foot.
Parking at the trail head is free and provides great access the trails for riding or waking, as well as offering a convenient place to launch your winter cross country skiing or snow showing activity into the wooded areas of the park.
There is a large stone building near the auto entrance that has a great view of the ravine below from the balcony. There are numerous other picnic areas, some with shelters, that like the stone building, can be reserved through the city for special occasions. In addition to great biking and hiking, there is a outdoor velodrome to watch or participate in track races and a sled hill...
