Innovation Hills has all the potential in the world. The entirety of the space is pretty awesome, and terrible at the same time. It’s baffling.
Pros: -Expansive space, from the playground to the path around the pond and beyond. -Easy to get to, and close to 59 as well as Walmart and Meijer for snacks/supplies. -Decently maintained outside some apparent slide issues that have been dragging on -Free
Cons: -Possibly the worst parking of any municipal park I’ve ever been to. Do you enjoy being stuck in single lane traffic with nowhere to go for 10 minutes ? 20 minutes ? This is your spot. There is no pressure release valve. You’re just trapped. Can you park across the street ? Sure. -Extremely limited shade and seating if you’re actively watching a kid on the playground. There is a surprising lack of benches in so many places where you think there would be benches. -Playground is somehow massive, with almost nothing to do ? There are a handful of “individual” attractions that make it seem like there’s a lot of features, but in reality there is just not much to do, especially with 100+ kids running around. -Upcoming paid parking.
Unfortunately, the cons are pretty big ones, dragging a clear cut 5* park in one of the best cities in Michigan down. Will we continue to come ? Yeah. Will it suck...

If you have kids, they'll love the playground. It's modern, safe, and has lots of cool equipment to keep them entertained. There are plenty of benches for parents to sit and relax, too. The picnic areas are great for a family outing – they have tables and grills, so you can easily set up for a BBQ.
The pond is another highlight. It's so calm and peaceful. You can fish there or just enjoy the view. If you're into kayaking or paddleboarding, it's perfect for that too.
What really stands out about Innovation Hills is how it's designed with the environment in mind. There are lots of signs around the park that teach you about the plants and animals, and the park's eco-friendly initiatives. It's a great place to learn something new while you're out enjoying nature.
