BUYER BEWARE – Beautiful apartments, great amenities, and you will be treated like cattle. Also watch out for utility prices - $500 / month in the winter.
My family and I have been staying at Legacy Rochester apartments for about a year. Their sales pitch is great – brand new apartments, state of the art facilities including gym, swimming pool, dog spa, etc. The place is beautiful and the apartments are great, with brand new amenities, I can’t deny that.
But the experience was very poor overall. You are dealing with a HUGE corporation, and they don’t care about you. Their contracts are ironclad, and there is no empathy or anything else. During their sales pitch, they did promise verbally that the swimming pool would be ready “by the end of the Summer”. A year and counting, the swimming pool has not been delivered. We moved in, there were no mailboxes – we were directed to go direct to the post office, which is the absolute worst experience, their service is atrocious. The leasing office just kept telling us “this is with USPS, there is nothing we can do”. Not really putting the extra effort here. We moved in July 2024, mailboxes were finally installed in February, a full 7 months after we moved in. No pool for a full year, no mail for 7 months, zero concession.
Please read all the fine print in their contract. There is a 60 day move out clause. They sent me the renewal paperwork but I had to read the attached document’s fine print to be reminded of that… The day before Memorial day they sent me a final notice stating that if I did not give them notice on that same day, I would be responsible for additional rent. I was on vacation for 4 days so I missed that too. I ended up giving them 54 day notice, but they will absolutely not budge, and will be charging me for 6 extra days. Talk about empathy and customer experience. Given the price of the apartment, that will probably be around $700. No pool for a full year, no mail for 7 months, but they are still sticking to their contractual fine print to nail you every possible way. Just watch out, it’s really a process and a lot of paperwork.
Also note that depending on the unit you got, you might be getting a pretty nice surprise when getting the utility bills. I got a 3 bedroom approx. 1,300 sqft apartment. DTE for electricy it running around $150 - $200 / month in Summer / Fall, but here are the Winter bills: $257 (December); $407 (January); $561 (February); $538 (March). Absolutely ridiculous, I feel like we are heating / cooling the entire building.
As great as the facilities look, I really don’t recommend this place. Once you are in, you are dealing with the big company and they don’t really care about people, stick to the contract and certainly not go out of their way to make you feel all...
Read morePosting this on behalf of my sister who lives there before they search their past & present records. And do yourselves a favor, when reading reviews, press newest option instead of most relevant. By far the most unprofessional “luxury” apartment complex I’ve ever lived in, and I’ve lived in 2 others before this. I waited almost 3 MONTHS to move in after my original move in date because they kept failing the inspections I was falsely promised that the pool will be opened for Memorial Day when I moved in, but it’s almost 4th of july and yet again, they keep failing their inspections. I find it absurd that a “luxury apartment” continuously keeps failing their inspections. What kind of builders are they hiring? And before they comment saying they understand our frustration and inspections are this and that- TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY. You promised your residents one thing and are failing to deliver time after time! What am I paying all this money for?! To stare at a pool? They have not even opened the bonfire area! At the very least they could have let us enjoy that! Not only that, but come to find out they promised their residents the pool was opening up last year by the end of summer! That is a rip off and completely false advertising if you ask me. I don’t want to hear about “we informed all the residents that dates were subject to change” because NO YOU DIDNT! For the amount I’m paying for “luxury” my apartment sure is falling apart! My floors are lifted, my trim is cracked and separating. When I informed them about this issue, I was met with “the foundation is still settling” I was told upon move in that the apartments are built with concrete in between or whatever it is that I won’t be able to hear my next door or the apartments above, but all I hear are loud footsteps or banging from above and kids screaming down the hall. Please don’t fall for their false promises like I so blindly did. Go to The Zen or anywhere else! This place loves to try to come at you for every little thing but never takes accountability for...
Read moreAs a resident in the first building to be constructed, I’ve seen Legacy grow from just a couple of buildings and a parking lot, to a completed development with full, luxury amenities. A resort-style pool, dog park, and an impressive clubhouse with game room and fitness center are. among the many features. Some notes:
Staff – This is the best part. The team at Legacy is a genuine pleasure to deal with. Each member of the leasing staff and maintenance team is positive, responsive, and thorough. They seem to enjoy what they do for a living and really care for residents, which makes all the difference in a rental environment!
Sound – The walls are concrete, not typical drywall. This construction style means you will not hear your next-door neighbors. I had a puppy living next-door for a time, and I’d hear him only through the entrance door when he and his owners (or I) were entering/exiting the apartment. Walls are SOLID.
Construction – Anyone who has had occasion to experience a new-build residential environment knows that completion timelines are fluid and noise is to be expected. I mention this only because other reviews comment on the construction, which is now fully complete.
Configuration - one thing I’d personally change if I were given a do-over is my choice of floor plan. Because of a furnace placement within the main bedroom, noise from the HVAC unit can be disruptive to sleep. If this is a concern, look to one of the other floor plans.
Amenities – The fitness center is super well equipped, meaning no need for a gym membership. The pool/deck area resembles a high-end resort space; the community building is top notch with golf simulator and conference/work spaces; and a dog park and pet-grooming station is a bonus if you’ve got a pet. A private garage was important to me, and I’m able to have that here at Legacy… what I didn’t expect is that it would be heated!
This truly is an amenity-rich living experience. There were growing pains in the early days, but the result was worth...
