I trail run here regularly, and it’s never repetitive or boring with the seasons changing. It’s one of the most beautiful places to visit in the autumn or winter because of the fall foliage and snow cover.

For trail running, it’s the perfect mix of flats and hills, depending on if you stick to the outside perimeter trails or venture inward. There’s a main 5k Strava loop I created that begins at the parking lot on the south side near the bathrooms (that are closed when it’s cold by the way). There’s a clockwise and counter-clockwise loop that is nearly 1.5 miles on each side of the park (crossing over the pedestrian bridge as a connector). But there are also more trails inward (especially on the south side with more hills), so definitely venture off the beaten path!

Overall, it’s a great park with fun trails, but it can get a little busy...

Public parks are amazing! Recently there had been some great volunteer work done at Black Hawk Forest to maintain the trails. Their work is apparent. Awesome job! Keep it up!

When going through the selection of trails that the Quad Cities offers Black Hawk Forest should make the top ten. Longer available miles, central location, and easily accessible trailheads make for a great time for individuals and families.

I really recommended the park for school groups wanting a nature walk for the kids where they can learn local history, plant life, and basics of hiking and interaction with our environment.

Also, for people wanting to get some short trail running mileage in without having to drive too far, Black Hawk Forest can be great. Again shorter miles for running, but with some creative trail weaving and repeats you can build some...

Peaceful, clean, and perfect for everyone. Black Hawk Forest is honestly a hidden gem in Illinois. Great spot for picnics, family time, or just vibing solo in nature. The playground is well-kept, and there’s plenty of open space for kids to run around or for adults to just chill and breathe.

Ideal for small events or peaceful getaways. It’s got that calm, natural energy that makes you feel grounded but free at the same time. Trees surround you, the air is clean, and the layout is perfect for both daytime hangs and quiet reflection. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the area.

✨ Highly recommend for families, solo walks, prayer breaks, or planning a peaceful...

My wife and I love hiking the trails here. Very well kept and plenty of room on the trails. The Southern trials on the Rock River can get very muddy and difficult to traverse during and after a rain, so be prepared. There are plenty of picnic tables and places to put down a picnic blanket. A lot of parking spots around the park and the bathrooms are located at the main building area.
