The museum is located in a building begun by the CCC in the 1930's and finished by the State of Illinois. Fantastic architecture and construction. The main museum is dedicated to the Sauk tribe and their occupation and use if the area. The docent vas very knowledgeable and helpful. Another part of the museum is dedicated to the CCC and give a detailed overview of how they were organized and how they built the structure. Outdoors is a memorial statue to Blackhawk with historical markers giving a little more insight into the history behind the ongoing conflicts. The statue is an Illinois State historical site.

Whomever had the foresight to take so many pictures during construction the Watchtower Lodge and surrounding grounds within the Blackhawk State Historical Site was a genious, and left a stunning array of pictorial history. The craftsmanship of the stonework is amazing! I took a lot of pictures of window frames, door casings, corners of the building, and ceiling structure. What a Treasure!
