From the meticulously pruned bonsai trees to the carefully placed stones and lanterns, the garden reflects the principles of balance, harmony, and simplicity that define Japanese aesthetics.

One of the highlights of my visit was the Tea House, a traditional Japanese structure nestled amidst the lush greenery. Stepping inside, I was transported to a different era, where the art of tea ceremony and tranquility reign supreme. The Tea House overlooks a picturesque pond, adding to the ambiance of serenity and providing a perfect spot for quiet reflection.

I am writing a review about their Halloween celebration supposedly intended for families. I just want to warn people with young children or multiple children NOT to attend this event. It was horrible. It’s hard to believe I was so stressed out in a pretty, garden setting. They are not equipped for the number of guests that were in attendance. There is no room to walk on the paths (some of which are actually dangerous for young ones) for anyone, let alone whole families. There are people crossing very narrow bridges heading straight for each other. I was afraid my four year old was about to fall in the water multiple times. People were not considerate, not allowing a mom pass to accompany her four year old. Furthermore, you have to pay, and it was advertised as a “trick or treat” event. The children have the opportunity to get maybe five pieces of candy- pretty disappointing to youngsters. Also many of the people handing out the teeny tiny Tootsie Rolls (yes that’s the kind of candy they provided) were not enthusiastic about their volunteer post. The kids weren’t greeted excitedly, but they made sure to let the kids know to only take one of those tiny candies. It was just a chaotic mess, with little to show for it. Also, there were people there with very large birds (like hawks and owls) doing demonstrations… They were standing in the middle of pathways people needed to pass by (causing even more foot traffic). At one point my four year old ran past a woman with a bird - HE HAD NO IDEA SHE HAD A BIRD. So like a normal four year old he just was running down the path, and she yelled at him (like scolding, not just for safety) that he came too close to her bird (he did not touch or bump into them in any way). This just seems ridiculous and actually dangerous. There were no clear marking a four year old or adult, could recognize to spot these bird people. Maybe they should have a separate section where people could go see the birds instead of randomly strewn about walking paths. They should not take people’s money and let too many guests in to where walking is dangerous with all the narrow, steep paths, bridges, water features. They also should not advertise a paid trick or treat experience when the kids get like five pieces of candy. It was stressful as a mom and disappointing for the kids. Oh! One last thing… there were adults without children trying to walk, sit peacefully, and take photos - this does not seem like a good mix! Kids expecting trick or treating and adults expecting peace in nature....

Place is beautiful: peaceful and relaxing. I was there with 3 other people. We came there after attending a wedding, and since we were dressed up, we decided to stop by and take some pictures.

We walked in and purchased tickets. We were asked right away if we were part of the wedding venue happening at their place. We responded not, and continued with our business.

As we walked into the garden, we started taking pictures with OUR own phones, nothing professional just regular phones.

Not even 500 feet away, we were approached by an African American man (must be a security or part of staff) saying: "What's going on here, you are taking professional pictures?" We responded saying no, we are taking pictures with our phones, and there are no professional pictures taken. After a short conversation, he let us go. Not even another 500 feet we were approached by another 2 ladies (staff) asking us again if we are taking professional pictures. After explaining the same story, we were let go. A few feet later we were approached by another man and woman, who appeared to be managers. We tried to explain the same story, but it didn't work out this way. Lady was direct enough to tell us that we were TOO DRESSED to be regular customers and we are taking professional pictures which was not allowed. I did not know that Anderson Japanese Garden had a dress code. I guess we should have been dressed as bums and homelessness.

My friends and I felt so discriminated against for the way we were dressed up. We felt insulted and betrayed. And not just that, other people visiting the park were looking at us and we were so embarrassed. We felt like criminals. Just because someone assumes that we were taking pictures professionally, we were treated the way we were treated. The unconscionable behavior by the employees was grossly irresponsible. The matter of how they forced us to leave was beyond embarrassing to us and witnessed by others...
