Great place to walk it off. This is an excellent path that connects to other paths in Rockford. Open all year round. The section here by Sinnissippi Gardens is now very well lit because of its updated lighting. If you're a member at the Y it's a good alternative for jogging or running nearby. You can bike you can skate you can run you can walk 24/7. Summertime offers various concession stands. The greenhouse is very pretty and a nice Escape during the cold winter months. I do miss the old Greenhouse it was free and had a nice Turf area. The new green house is very nice downside is you have to pay to get in. Also sometimes the events overcrowd the Gardens area. You can ride the trolley or you can ride the riverboat. If you have your own ice skates you can go ice skating and the eclipse Lagoon when it's frozen and open. The eclipse Lagoon is very pretty in the summertime lots of koi fish and two whites ones couple of fountains. One of my favorite things to do in summer once is walk around and smell all of the different roses in the rose gardens. It's a good place to do walking meditation sit and read a book. There are a couple spots I've been able to play kubb at night but I've never tried it in the daytime. Parking is pretty limited towards the greenhouse but there are plenty of parking spots to the South and there are pass available to walk towards whatever place you would...
Read moreA beautiful old park in Old Rockford, up the side of a great hill with winding paths through the forests and clearings. It's a fabulous place to walk with your family or your dogs. There are children's play areas, picnic tables, and lots of paved and natural walking paths. For me, the majesty is in the old-growth trees, and the views you can get from the plateau at the top of the great hill that change with the seasons. The Sinnissippi Band Shell often has music acts (usually free of charge) near the top of the hill that run all summer. Sinnissippi Golf course starts out of the clubhouse near the crest of the hill. And in Winter, there are numerous activities as well, with snow sculpting competitions and the Festival of Lights, with vignettes of Christmas built, decorated, and sponsored by civic-minded groups and organizations. We used to come here when I was a child for sledding and cross-country skiiing. One of my favorite...
