Renwood Golf Course - Round Lake Area Park District — Attraction in Round Lake Beach

Best golf value in the Round Lake/Grayslake area. In 2023 it was only $28 to walk 18 on the weekend.

The course is in good shape and it is fairly easy to get on even though it gets a lot of play. The staff our friendly and you can get a good brat the turn. The practice facilities are also good (driving range and chipping/putting area).

The layout of the front and back nines are pretty different from each other. The front night is more wide open with a couple of exceptions where as the back nine requires a lot more stategery (misspelled intentionally) beginning with the tee shot on 10.

My favorite hole is the par 5 16th. My approach on this hole is to hit a 165 yard shot right of the bunker and then two 100 yard shots to the bridge and then the 4th shot over the creek and hopefully on to the elevated green. I also really enjoy the finishing 18th. Don't put your tee shot to the right or good luck finding your ball amongst the hundreds of range balls. However there is also danger off the tee to the left in the tall grass and the bunkers. If you manage these obstacles you still have to get your approach shot over the water to a slightly elevated green protected by bunkers.

At the 10th hole my party of 3 was told by a man on a cart that we needed to hurry up. He stated that there were two holes in front of us that were not being played. At the 9th hole, we had ran into the club house to get a drink refill. When we had started our 9th hole, there was no wait. The only person in front of us since hole 1 was a solo player. He had been one hole in front of us the entire 18 holes. While finishing the last 9 holes, there was no one waiting behind us to tee off. The man on the cart made us hurry and become flustered for entirely no reason. This was my first time golfing at Renwood, my husband’s 5th. I have heard good reviews and wanted to try the course out. Overall, Course was in decent condition (C)

Greens rolled pretty true (B-), pretty slow but not bumpy which was solid.

Fairways and rough (C-) Fairway a little overgrown but I’m assuming that’s cuz courses been closed due to covid and the rain we’ve been getting. They were mowing even though it was still a bit wet (several large swallows of rain water)

Ambiance C Clubhouse looked nice but couldn’t go in due to covid. By some roads and a train track could be old at times. this is what I believe the main reason they provide a reasonable price but if your like me and don’t care about noises. Not a problem
