I love this trail due to its proximity to my house, but mostly due to the many different trails you can hike to make every visit a new hike. There are various trails to experience and they range from easy to moderate. Some trails are more shady than others. There’s also steep climbs with naturally made steps to climb if you’re seeking a challenge. The views of the local San Gabriel Mountains are spectacular. Love the noticeable change of the seasons in the vegetation. Hills are starting to get green with the recent rains. Parking is free when you enter from Schabarum Park’s main entrance off Colima Street during the Weekdays, or after 6pm on the Weekends. Drive to the end of the parks parking and park next to the horse stables. Currently the public restrooms near the horse stable are closed for renovated. However, there are many public restrooms available throughout the park.

One of the easier hiking trail in the Shabarum Regional Park. There are plenty of shades and view points/rest stop on the way to the top. Watch out for downhill bicyclists as they can go very fast. Be courteous to horse riders as you don't want to frighten the horse. There are lots of wild animals if you pay attention, especially watch out for rattle snake in the afternoon. Overall, it's a nice trail if you have an hour or two.

Best time is on a clear day during spring where there are wildflowers, birdsong and butterflies. 850 feet of vert from front of park parking lot near Colima. 5 mi up and down from towers next to radio station.

I came down from Shabarum-Skyline Trail Extension Connector, then got on Gray Skyline towards Black Walnut Trail back to the streets. Best parking is at the Black Walnut Trailhead. I definitely want to go back and do the Extension Connector starting from Gray Skyline Trail, its a long way up with a lot of switchbacks. If you're looking for a tough trail close by, this is the one. Lots of wildlife also. I saw many squirrels and bunnies, many more birds...
