I love this trail due to its proximity to my house, but mostly due to the many different trails you can hike to make every visit a new hike. There are various trails to experience and they range from easy to moderate. Some trails are more shady than others. There’s also steep climbs with naturally made steps to climb if you’re seeking a challenge. The views of the local San Gabriel Mountains are spectacular. Love the noticeable change of the seasons in the vegetation. Hills are starting to get green with the recent rains. Parking is free when you enter from Schabarum Park’s main entrance off Colima Street during the Weekdays, or after 6pm on the Weekends. Drive to the end of the parks parking and park next to the horse stables. Currently the public restrooms near the horse stable are closed for renovated. Read moreI came down from Shabarum-Skyline Trail Extension Connector, then got on Gray Skyline towards Black Walnut Trail back to the streets. Best parking is at the Black Walnut Trailhead. I definitely want to go back and do the Extension Connector starting from Gray Skyline Trail, its a long way up with a lot of switchbacks. Watch out for downhill bicyclists as they can go very fast. Be courteous to horse riders as you don't want to frighten the horse.
