Great stop! Just $4 to enter house which is priced right for the size of it. The house was originally way up the hill with no one around it, a perfect view to see anyone approaching his rental, and very private. Can you imagine how on edge he must have always been?! Then to let his guard down one beautiful day...and be shot in the back by his young crony. Excellent friendly & informative docent...we learned so much! Spent about 1 hr here and def saw everything. Check out the tapestry he was straightening (wedding gift from his mom supposedly) & the bullet hole below it. DON'T MISS the bloodstain hole in the floor (others just cruised on by and missed a lot). Jesse's body was buried 3 times. The last time they found all the deteriorated pieces that are laid out in the case....including the bullet he carried in his lung. Very cool! Google & listen to a folk song about the dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard. That was Jesse using a fictitious name...Mr. Howard...the song is about him! DON'T MISS the amazing Patee Museum...

The neighborhood that the museum is very rough. We made the mistake of arriving a half hour before closure. The staff as I walked in immediately told me of the fact. Also no public bathroomwhich she rudely told me. I paid the 16 dollars so my wife and I get in. The worker did not say thank you. I drove an hour and half from where we’re staying to see Jesse James Death house. The worker in that section as we opened the door immediately told us the house no longer take visitors 15 min before closing. You would think he would makes us feel welcome so we would buy souvenirs. However I took my picture of where Jesse got killed and left. I understand the workers might have a bad day and work in a rough neighborhood but please be nice and welcoming to paying customers. Also St Joseph is a dump and lock ur car doors...

Unfortunately very frustrating experience. We drove 40 miles out of our way to be there, called to confirm that it was open, the lady on the phone said that they were there until 3:45 PM of which we arrived at 3 o’clock 45 minutes early and it was completely locked up tight. I called today to let them know that I rarely complain about anything but this was ridiculous and got a very straight I’m sorry. I’m sure that nothing will be done or can be done at this point because the person on the phone said they were not the one that was there so they have no idea what can be done.We were very excited to see the history of all of this was Jesse James again drove out of the way and we’re extremely disappointed will not be...

Stopped in at my disabled husband's request. He walks with a walker so I told him we would try I just wasn't sure if it would be handicapped accessible. It is handicapped accessible. We parked behind the museum and all he had to do was walk up a bit of an incline ramp and right up onto the porch. Once we were in the small house it was easy for him to stop and read. The two gentlemen working were so friendly and informative telling us about things in the house. We were going to visit the museum but we couldn't enter from the back. By the time my husband got in our car he was tired.

Supposed to close at 4, walked into the tiny 3 room house at 3:43, gruff manly attendant said I don't let anyone in after 15 minutes til 4, you can look at the bullet hole and that's it. Like what could you find more than that to see? Not really much, little bits crammed in there, I will add the pics I took in about 5 minutes. Luckily the price is cheap. Warning, get there at opening. It is included in the pony express museum next door, and lock your car doors it is a VERY rotten neighborhood.
