We thoroughly enjoyed our tour through this great little museum (May 2021), and the "Rider's Gallery" exhibit was the icing on the cake that really humanized it. Reasonable admission fee, nicely crafted exhibits, and some "hands-on" activities made it entertaining and very informative. As a middle-aged adult, I have of course known about the pony express in general since childhood. But even as a person who is casually interested in many different historical topics, I have never explored this one until now. I was astounded to realize that the pony express was in operation for less than two years - It is such a legendary thing in my mind that I always assumed it had gone on for decades. And learning about some of the specific things that happened to the riders along the trail was also fascinating. There were several large-scale murals that were part of the overall tour, and they were all amazing. We stayed in Saint Joseph, having travelled from Iowa, while attending the flea market in Sparks, Kansas. This museum was well worth the 90 minutes it took us to go through - I'm so glad we took...

The museum is great and very educational and interesting. However the gentleman working last weekend disappointed me. We only had a little over an hour before the museum closed but we wanted to tour anyway. Only one other couple in the museum with us. When I went to use the restroom just 10 minutes before close he made a comment like I shouldn't be using the restroom since there were only minutes left before closing. I ignored him politely and used the restroom and resumed my tour. When closing time arrived we were leaving as I heard the couple behind me in the gift shop. They were told he couldn't sell them anything because he'd Already closed the gift shop. I saw him closing the gift shop shortly after we arrived the hour before. He was already counting the drawer knowing two couples entered the facility and could possibly make purchases. What would it have hurt? Covid has probably made his job pretty cushy of late. Finally has customers and both couples left...

The Pony Express National Museum is a hidden treasure that brings one of the most legendary chapters of American history to life. From the moment you step inside, you're transported back to 1860, when brave young riders risked everything to deliver the mail across the frontier.

The exhibits are immersive, well-designed, and packed with fascinating artifacts and stories. You get a real sense of the grit, danger, and determination it took to ride for the Pony Express. The museum does a wonderful job blending education and entertainment—it’s perfect for both adults and kids.

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the history they’re preserving. Whether you're a history buff, a fan of the Old West, or just looking for something unique to explore, this museum is well worth the visit. Don’t miss it when you’re...

Great place to learn about how our country grew and met the communication needs of those who were moving west. Buckling Station is in Weeks Nevada...a town that is so small the name is on both sides of the same sign 😀

This building is a wealth of information with plenty of displays to feed the mind regarding the history and development of the pony express system. St. Joseph was considered the eastern terminus. I learned of how the program was designed, passed as a law, with designations and stations to be determined. Even the choice of horses and riders were a huge consideration. These riders encountered bad weather and situations that put their lives at risk. Young, skinny, riders not over eighteen, expert riders with orphans preferred and wages of 25.00 per week tempted many to try this dangerous job.
