Quick reality check here, 1 semester experience from my boyfriend:
The Bookstore - as has been mentioned in other reviews - is a blatant attempt at ripping off students who are already overpaying for the quality of education Salisbury University will provide. It's a MESS. I come from a third world country and I've never seen an educational institution be this confusing about the most basic things like required books for a syllabus.
Algebra teacher could not figure out why his calculations would never match the book's answers - that's because he consistently kept adding the page number into whatever equation was written next to it.
Technical Writing teacher e-mailed the whole class a singlep aragraph describing an assignment. 2 weeks later, nobody handed it in, because not a single person could understand what the assignment was. 'I' read the assignment (I have two college degrees and speak 5 languages fluently) and I could not even begin to make sense of his request.
As per state law students have to take up some kind of physical activity in the form of a class (swimming, sports and so on). One of them was Power Walking. Highest tuition fees in the state.. for walking. Very creative use of budget.
If you're local to Salisbury you'll likely avoid this place because you KNOW. It's the students that transfer here and have no idea - falling for the marketing, the beautiful campus and all - that end up wasting their time and money. There's about TWO strong programs in the entirety of the spectrum - Business, which is ministered by the Perdue School of Business (so not REALLY Salisbury University, they just have an arrangement), and the Nursing program is apparently top notch. Every other program I can PROMISE and GUARANTEE to you you are not getting your...
Read moreWas a transfer student and graduated last year. Definitely prefer this school over my last one. I like the small campus feel and the campus is beautiful. I liked a lot of my professors, they are knowledgeable and like teaching and caring about your success. The food is pretty good but got repetitive, so I ended up going to CVS or Safeway a lot and just buying food there.
There's one professor, Shawn McEntee that I'm so confused on why she's still there. Her rating on ratemyprofessors is horrible. She sucks as a professor.
I was taking a summer class on campus, walked out of my bedroom one morning to find a bunch of maintenance workers in my dorm (I was in Seagull Square) doing painting in the room next to mine. No heads up that they were going to be there. I could've been naked. Housing didn't seem to care when I said something to them. Just that they sent an e-mail to those whose rooms were being painted, what about those who were staying on campus?
The sociology department did nothing to prepare me for finding a career. They focused more on random capstone projects than helping you land internships or something useful. There's two different capstone classes that you have to take that are basically the same thing. It's been 6 years since I graduated and I can't find a job in the field, most of us can't. Waste of...
Read moreWe toured Salisbury University with our daughter. Our tour guides were lively and energetic and were sincere in their appraisal of the university. The library is gorgeous and a testament to the school's small, but well though-out, campus. Between the Purdue and the Guerrieri families, this is the university that chicken built. Don't understand the reference, look it up! My daughter is looking at business and economics, so we were happy we got to see the Business building, which was quite impressive. Salisbury is part of the University of Maryland System, but is a Division III school, so unfortunately, there's not a lot of energy around their sports programs the way you would find at a larger school. I did watch their football team practice a little, and they looked decent. Housing looks like it may be at a minimum on campus, though I believe they are building more student dwellings. The biggest negative was South Salisbury Avenue. With its nail salons, vape and cannabis shops, food shops, etc., it looked like suburb that was being run-down by cheap businesses - similar to Baltimore Avenue at UMCP. Salisbury itself is also a bit of a dodgy town, but a lot of campuses are in similar situations. Always best to stay with a group of people when...
