Nice park kind of tucked away off the beaten path but also very much on the beaten path. Also if you ride bikes or maybe enjoy hiking and/or running this is the connection to the Salado creek Greenway trail which by the way runs from past roughly bitters and 1604 all the way down through McAllister Park. From there it travels alongside the creek through basically the north east central part of the city. It eventually runs into the San Antonio river but the Greenway ends just north of it. It's a very long trail and very few places to stop and drink some water from a water fountain. All in all I would recommend at least checking out a portion of the Greenway system. Read moreWe loved this trail to come back again to Lady Bird Johnson Park. This time we started the trail from the Los Patios end. The other day we started from the other end.
Love that this is a mostly shady easy, paved path with a few stretches of full sun. During the day the lippia/frogfruit were attracting a lot of butterflies.
With the rain yesterday, areas that were dry the other day are now gushing rivers. We even spotted an egret/heron.
I was such in a rush to head back that I almost missed the doe and her fawns. I was saying earlier that a sighting would make this trail awesome! No photo of them though because they quickly ran away.
We finished our walk before the gates closed and also right before the sky opened and rained!

Read moreThis is a great trailhead - starting out here I walked to the end of the Salado Trailhead - it was a 9 mile round trip. I was pleasantly surprised that this trailhead is OUTSTANDING - on a Sunday morning it was pretty much empty throughout. Great scenery - tons of trees - some of the biggest oak trees that I have seen on the trailheads - I usually walk the different courses at Hardberger Park - which are some of the best trails in the city — but Lady Bird has far less people and is just as scenic as any other trailhead...
