The phlebotomist, Christina H. is truly an angel (she was literally an answer to my prayer as we were driving to LabCorp). The patient is my 77 year old special needs brother, who also has Parkinson’s Disease, which causes a tremor (so a moving target for anyone attempting to draw blood), AND, his veins are typically difficult to hit. Additionally, he has had some traumatic lab draw attempts, which causes him to be more anxious about having to have any blood work done. At one doctor’s office a few years ago, the nurse tried unsuccessfully three times, and then it took the doctor two more attempts before he got the blood sample. Recently, at a different doctor’s office, the nurse tried twice unsuccessfully, my brother fainted, threw up when he came to, and threw up again as soon as we got home. So it is against this backdrop that Christina H. came into my brother’s world. I filled her in privately about some of my brother’s history, and his special needs before she called his name. She was very kind, and treated him with dignity and respect. He asked her if she is a Dodgers fan, and she said, “Yes!,” so he felt like he was in friendly territory, which helped him to relax a little in her presence. Most importantly, Christina’s technique was absolute perfection, which was captured by the confused look on my brother’s face when we told him she got his vein on the first try. He was perplexed because he said he didn’t feel the sting, and she wasn’t needing to move the needle around under his skin to try to get the blood to flow. When Christina was done, she pointed out to my brother that she was wrapping his bandage in “Dodgers Blue,” which delighted my brother. The relief in all of this as an advocate for my brother brought me to tears. My brother has had to endure so much. Having Christina H. treat my brother with such compassionate professionalism AND to have her be a “sharp shooter” who made this blood draw his easiest ever is absolutely priceless! Thank you from the bottoms of both of our hearts. Needless to say, the next time my brother needs blood work done, we will return to LabCorp in San Dimas, and we will request Christina H. Because of this experience, I think that my brother will not only NOT be anxious going into his next blood draw, he will probably be looking forward to getting to return to see...
Read moreTaking off one star due to the unprofessional treatment I received from the tech doing the blood draw. The rest of the staff is amazing though. I tried to get my bloodwork done but the receptionist told me the specific test needs to be done before 9 am. All Labcorp offices are booked out weeks in advance, so you can imagine how stressed out I was, as I needed this test done ASAP. The receptionist was very accommodating, however, and wrote a note on my labwork paper and told me to come in the next day before 9 am and they'll take me as an appointment. I came in the next day around 8:15 am and it was PACKED but I was called back after waiting 5 minutes. This is where the bad comes in though. I have very high anxiety and a history of fainting, as well as pain sensitivity and a dislike of being touched due to being on the autism spectrum. I let all of my techs know about this before they touch me and they have all been very nice and accommodating for me. It was almost as if my presence alone irritated this tech after I mentioned my problems. Two quotes I can remember her saying are "stop telling me how to do my job" and "I'm the queen of anxiety and I'm not willing to give up my crown". I was appalled at her behavior. Tough love has no place in the medical industry, especially when it comes to people on the autism spectrum like me. I think some sensitivity training would do her some good. Everything else about the visit (aside from having a recliner and no bed) was...
Read moreI took a test on February 28th, and I hadn't received the result until March 4th. Since the result usually takes 1 or 2 days, I contacted the customer service where I purchased the test. Subsequently, I received an email from Labcorp saying my results were ready to view in my account. However, the results were from the previous year, not the recent test. Upon notifying them of the error, I received an email stating that my test couldn't be completed, and I was advised to return to the lab. When I inquired with Labcorp about who should respond to the mistake in my case, nobody replied to me anymore.. This is ridiculous. I cannot believe how they run a medical business with such carelessness, and continually making mistakes. Nobody cares about...
