I came here at least 10 times during my mission. First time was fall 2022 with Elder Romney to watch Deers and tress. The orange-yellow leaves were all over the ground. I came here to do a mountain bike with Elder Romney. It was so much fun too. I love this park as a place to escape the noisy of San Jose! I am respected the way the protect this historic park for future generations! Free-parking!

A nice area of Alum Rock Park to go hiking. Interesting part of the Park that really shares the history of the park. A odd odor came from the historic mineral springs that are represented from the stone arches. The Creek was the best part of this area in my opinion.

In the heydays, this area was popular due to the mineral springs, which lead to construction of bath houses. This area became a health resort from 1892 to 1902 due to the benefits of the waters, relieving stomach troubles, rheumatism, and malarial afflictions.

From the information plaque: Mineral Springs Grotto The mineral springs located in this area have played an important role in the story and development of the park. Between 1891 and 1902, the Parks Commission began developing the park, highlighting the springs. During this period, over 20 different sprints were identified, including sulfur, magnesia, and naturally carbonated soda springs. To protect the identity of the different springs, tunnels were dug into the hillsides and craftsmen were brought in to build grottos and fonts that were found in the area. The masons created the stone using native rock collected from the canyon. The intricate patterns and style you see demonstrate the formality...
