I cannot say enough good things about the dancing cat.
First, this is an animal shelter. About 12 to 15 cats live here, as they wait to find adoptive families. However, this place is not run like a typical shelter;rather, it is run like a large home for cats. The cats Run free within the space, which is laid out like a very large living room, within which they can interact directly with people. They are clearly very well treated, and well cared for, having as it were almost a real home here.
What makes this place unique, and memorable, is the fact that they actually invite the public to come in and spend time in their very home-like space, playing and just being with the cats. You can come in and rest, sit on the couch, purchase small snacks, sit at their table and work, read, or whatever suits you, right in the presence of these cats who themselves love attention and human time. They asked for a $10 per hour per person donation, but, really, you should always donate more than that if you can.
The dancing cat is really an example of how shelters should be. I believe, that, if successful, this is the way shelters will be in the future. I They are deserving of all of the publicity and support we can give them. Please make some time to go down and give some love to the cats, and spend some time having a little bit of peace. Whether you are looking to adopt a cat, or, like me, you just wish you could have cats at your home, this is the place you have always been searching for...
Read moreWhat can I say about this place? It's a feline institution with cat enthusiasts from all over the world visiting it. They occasionally offer art classes, which I highly recommend. It's a great way to meet other cat minded individuals. The stars of the place are all of the four legged furry variety. Cat condos are strategically placed throughout the room, strategically places cats at a comfortable petting height. BEWARE- if the cat as is wearing a collar, this signifies the cat is especially frisky and is known for biting and clawing. APPROACH WITH CAUTION!!! It's best to just use one of the many provided cat toys to interect this bad a** cat. We'll be back soon. The double door entrance is a novel approach for keeping cats from escaping. My family loved picking up and hugging the cats. (don't do that with the collared cat, she'll probably scratch your eyes out.) If you are in the area, and are a cat person, or know someone that is a car person, be sure to check this place out before it relocates to a...
Read moreMy partner and I followed the Dancing Cat on Instagram for weeks before booking our hour online. When we got there, it was like meeting celebrities. The space is like a huge living room with all the cats walking free.
I very much liked the open environment. You get to meet the animals where they're comfortable instead of walking up to a cage and asking to pet one. It felt very natural.
The staff knew all the animals and was able to very clearly describe their personalities which was very helpful.
There are biscottis and Keurig coffee available, but I came here for the kitties. I've seen some criticism that there's not enough selection refreshments-wise but I would remind people that this is an animal shelter and not a Starbucks.
We came here on a whim with the bright line rule that we wouldn't adopt that day. Then we met Oreo, a handsome tuxedo, and that rule was forgotten. Thank you Dancing Cat for the great...
