We hiked to Big Spring Falls in Banning State Park in Sandstone Minnesota and it was an unforgettable experience. The short trail leads through peaceful woods and opens up to the Kettle River where it flows over smooth rock ledges creating a wide gentle waterfall. The water below has a beautiful blue green hue from the spring bubbling up on the far bank.
We kicked off our shoes and waded in. The riverbed is smooth and the pool by the falls is shallow and calm making it a perfect spot to cool off after the hike. The sound of rushing water and the quiet natural setting made it feel peaceful and secluded.
This spot is great for families and the hike is easy and scenic. It was less crowded than the main areas of the park and made for a perfect break during our visit. Highly recommend stopping here if you're anywhere near...
