We hiked to Big Spring Falls in Banning State Park in Sandstone Minnesota and it was an unforgettable experience. The short trail leads through peaceful woods and opens up to the Kettle River where it flows over smooth rock ledges creating a wide gentle waterfall. The water below has a beautiful blue green hue from the spring bubbling up on the far bank.

We kicked off our shoes and waded in. The riverbed is smooth and the pool by the falls is shallow and calm making it a perfect spot to cool off after the hike. The sound of rushing water and the quiet natural setting made it feel peaceful and secluded.

This spot is great for families and the hike is easy and scenic. It was less crowded than the main areas of the park and made for a perfect break during our visit. Highly recommend stopping here if you're anywhere near...

Going backward...The Falls are amazing! It's worth the little headaches. The path is not real clear and not for someone thatneeds help walking. People, please do Not take 2 parking spots, just because there are no lines. I did drive down to the lower part, not as amazing. By the time I got back, there were 4 spots open. For the peace of the falls, I'll keep...

Not a long trail, but the falls at the end are a nice reward. The road leading to skunk creek and a neat set of red (iron rich) colored rapids emptying into the river. But large boulders now the block the road, you can pass on foot, but it’s a much longer walk...

Realy cool falls. Varies with the seasons. Don't just run to the river, explore the potholes in the woods. And you can find a pothole in the rocks that goes top to bottom in the west channel if the water is low.
