It all starts with a beautiful drive up the mountain along highway 26. Then you pass through so many quaint towns on the way to stock up for your outdoorsy needs. Once you get over the top of Mt Hood, it's a 1/4mile downhill, and a large parking lot awaits you on the right. Park, suit up, snowshoes on, and one foot in front of the other. It's an amazing hike in during the winter months with 5-6ft of snow. Backpacking, cross country skiing, hiking, they have it all. We even stopped to feed the birds once we got to the lake. Read moreNormally we love this trail. But due to construction, you can't go around the lake. The boardwalk has been completely removed and will not be completed until fall of 2022. It would be nice if the official website mentioned the planned completion date. All it tells you is that it is closed for repairs to the boardwalk. I wouldn't call replacing the boardwalk a repair.
