Sorry for photo bombing y'all. I just really enjoy this place. I've been coming to Ole Gilliam Mill since I was a child. Once a year they have a Crank Up where they fire up the old mill and will grind corn meal. It's a lot of fun! The rest of the year it's an amazing place to reconnect with nature and history. The old buildings are fascinating and it's quite fun to imagine what life was like working at the mill. Not into walking? No worries, there's a beautiful pond on site where you can fish. Across the road is the longest covered bridge in NC. Pretty niffy. I went out today for a nice stroll and happened across some nice young fellas fishing. Then I found a pile of animal bones. Various old cabins that you can walk inside and see, various demonstrations of old techniques (moonshine, saw mill, etc), and a handful of old machines and souvenir shops. There was live singing, a tractor pull for the kids, and an rv trailer pull for the family. Only cost $5 per person for adults. The only caution ⚠️ was the parking. It is located on a 2 lane hwy, so lots of cars parked on both sides of the road and the "overflow" lot is one way in/out, so it can...
